:-) Apart from the Viking (see "How to paint blonde hair?") I have another figure that I would like to finish. This one is a black woman (erotic, well to some. Is that allowed here?).
When I used to paint figures (only ever done 4) I used the enamel base coat then oil paint method. How do I paint female flesh, in this case black female flesh (all over). :-)
Am I allowed to post Pictures of naked female figures? I understand that in American competitions naked or erotic figures are banned, or banished to other, out of the way rooms. I also don't want to affend the growing female members on this sight
I suppose I could email the pics to those that want them

For this guy, I used a base coat of burnt umber enamel, shadows were van Dyke brown and the highlights were done in raw sienna oils.

There is a great article by Mark Bannerman on painting African-American flesh tones.. Look it up on Missing Linx.

And about the pics, there was a tread about posting pics like the ones you described. If I remember correctly some of the members were not thrilled by the thought... Anyways, I'm over 18 and don't mind seeing nude figures. After all that's modeling too.. :-)

I was also going to suggest the Mark Bannerman page, but maki got there before me. For a simple colour scheme, that i have used before and it worked quite well was a base of humbrol leather and a wash of choclate brown. Highlighted with leather and samll amount of wood. Some pink mixed in for cheeks and lower lip.

Hola Mal,

Ive never painted an African American before, butI would use the mix that Al mentioned. I might substitue the Raw Sienna for Naples Yellow for the highlights though. The best suggestion I can give you is to mix and add shadows and highlights on your palette to get a mix that you like.

As for the pictures, you can email them to me at [email protected], and I'll 'censur' them so no privates are showing. Sound fair?

Hola Plastic Battle,

I know I know! But...like previously stated all here does not feel the same like me and you, that those figures are models, but "pervert". So, that was the best conclusion that I came up with, as not to offend any body.

Maybe he can upload the images on MSN and post a link and warn users to enter at their own discression due to nudity? How do you feel about that?

Um guys, I know it probably goes without saying, but - not all African-Americans are dark skinned. Personally speaking, I'm probably a half-shade darker that the rest of you!

If you're going to paint African-Americans, please remember we come in all tones, shapes, and sizes...

:-) Thanks Anders, I don't want to offend anybody, I do understand that there are youngsters looking in. I'm just after constructive criticism. If I ever get it done I'll sort it out then.
Gunnie Yep I understand, it took me a long time deciding to actually post this question for fear of someone taking offence. The fact is she is a "captive of the Aztecs" and her skin is black or dark anyway.
I haven't painted her yet, and it's been over ten years, because my painting skills weren't up to it. As I've stated elswhere, I gave up figure painting when I gave up armour modelling. I would just like to paint figures again. As I have this figure it seams like a good, if difficult, place to restart. Armorama and the people here have given me the confidence. :-)

Hi Mal,
I painted Pony Soldiers' "Buffalo Soldier" bust a few years ago. I painted him with a darkish skin tone. Here is a link to a picture and the mix I used for him.
https://armorama.kitmaker.net//features/117&page=4
I hope it's of some help to you.
The eyes on him are a little too white looking. I think I should have mixed a little more yellow in the white to paint them.

Of course, that's understood, Gunnie. Humans run the color gamut from very light to very dark. Painting darker skinned people is a challenge for me and not have the figure look like a 1930's racist cartoon. I can use the back of my hand as a good gauge if I'm getting caucasian skin right, but I don't have that luxury when I do a dark skinned person.
