Just looked at the unimog spec sheets and it seems there are two types of 1700L
There is the U1700/1700L and the U1700L/38
seems the U1700/1700L has a shorter wheelbase than the 1300 and the U1700L/38 has a longer wheelbase.
I'm trying to figure out which exact model the ADF actually uses.
edit --
THIS MAY HELP
Though it doesnt say which exact model is used in the 80's it gives the dimensions consistent with the U1700L/38.
http://www.unimog.com.au/tech_specs/u1700L38.pdf
I really hate it when sites don't quote sources though.

Pave-Hawk , both NZ and Oz purchased the long wheelbase version U1700L (different countries use different model designations so be careful when reading specs).
Length - 6.7 m
Width - 2.465 m
Height - (cab) 2.78 m
(canvas) 3.14 m
Track - 1.84 m
Wheelbase - 3.85 m
Tyres - 13.00 x 20 (U1300 kit = 11 x 20)
The Oz versions were assembled at MB plant in Mulgrave, Victoria.
If you need any other info just give a shout.
HTH.
PS. I still have the original copies of the parts catalogues and Operating Instructions books, plus 13 years experience "playing with them", so can help with most questions.

That saves me the effort, thanks.

My (sort of) LHS has one of these on the shelf. If somebody is interested, I'll be happy to get it for you and post it on. Don't know the price of hand, but needless to say I'll not ask for more than the actual purchase and shipping cost.
Cheers

Casper,
Those photos are pure gold for any one wanting to build a Unimog model. Obviously shot with a modelers eye.
Yes Sabot, the kit went off for $31, my top bid was $30. Just under $40 Aus. Quite a bit of cash considering I've found kits the same vintage in the bargin bin for about $10 at a model show. I'm one grumpy Gunner at the moment.
But I'll purchase the L118/l119 and start it over the next holidays. Might post a few shots of the progress for every one to see in the Artillery forum.
Henk...id be happy to grab that kit paying the cost and shipping is no real drama at this end

Hi Darren,
I'll pop down the shop later and will let you know the (shipping)cost on Monday, when I had a change to pop down the post-office.
Cheers
