I’m thinking about doing a project with Mouse House's L118/L119 Field gun.
As I want to make this an Australian gun, and I want it being towed by the gun tractor, I need a late model Unimog. I've seen Modellbau's early unimog, but it's obviously too early for the model that Australia bought circa late 80's early 90’s
I believe that I saw a Revelle kit of a late model unimog. I’ve searched all over for one to no avail.
Does any one know where I can find one? If indeed it does exist.

Darren, Revell did the Unimog in (correct me if i'm wrong here) 1/25th scale. The recent 1/35th kit from DasWerk was also the EARLY version. It's unfortanely not a subject that's got the plastic mnufacturers very excited... As far as I know, there ISN'T a plastic kit available in 1/35th...

Thanks for the reply Jim,
So it wasnt just my imagintation, I remember walking through a hobbie shop and I saw the kit. One of those moments wher you go ...hey if I see a L118/119 I'll grab one of those. I should have looked at the scale, but it was a while ago when I spied the kit.

From what I have read Revell did a 1/35 unimog 1300L.
The aussie mog is the 1700L which has a longer wheelbase.

Ahhh! I stand corrected although they definitely did a 1/25th fire engine as well...

Revell did a 1/35 scale Unimog Lkw 2t tmilgl kit #03020. I've got one, it is just a standard 4-wheeled cargo truck type. Looks pretty nice.

Aside from the 1/25 scale Unimog 1300L cargo truck, they actually did TWO 1/25 scale Unimog fire trucks with different rear bodies (Rosenbauer TFL 8/18 and Schlingman RW1). I believe at least one of them was also available in 'Electronic' form, with an electronic card, speaker and lights. They've also more recently issued the same truck with a snow plow and salt-spreader body.

Hi All,
I too have been looking for Revell's 1/35 Unimog to no avail.
I was thinking of something like a British version of the U. S. special forces FMTV 'Warpig' or 'Mother' vehicle used in Iraq. I believe Sebastien (Seb43) is building one of the latter based on a vac-form kit.

Hej Robin,
Thank you so much for the Data sheets. Awesome information.
I think the differences between the 1300L and the 1700L are as Pave-Hawk said, the 1700L having a longer wheel base. By about 450mm according to the Data Sheets that you've provided. With an overall length difference of 160mm.
The biggest difference seems to be that the 1700L is turbo charged. Where the 1300L is not.
I think I can live with the different lengths and wheel bases. Scaled down to 1/35 I’m sure most people are going to get the callipers out and bust me.
And a big thank you to Sabot for the kit number. I'll try to look it up and see if its what I need.

Revell (Europe) has made several Unimogs over the years. One is 1/35 scale, but not currently in production. Easily found on ebay or second hand. I'm not familar with this one, but suspect its a scaled down version of the 1/24 ones. There is a current ebay auction.

There were five unique 1/24 scale versions that come to mind. Two different fire apparatus, one of which was later issued as the "lights and sound" version with electronics. One was a Dakar rally race truck. Another was a military version. The last one that comes to mind was a snowplow. I like them, though for 1/24 scale Revell kits they really could use a good detailing.

Revell of Germany is extremely notorious for short production runs of its 1/35 scale armor models. Most of their kits are reboxed from other manufacturers' models, but the Unimog is one of the handful of Revell original models. Here is a partial scan of the box art. The box is bigger than my scanner bed.

from the box art it would also appear to left hand drive.
I wouldn't mind this kit myself to see how much work would be needed to make it a more accurate 1700 as I have a few reference photos of the aussie version.

Good luck to you. I think it is a neat kit. I bought one because I have the Revell of German version of the Italeri M101 105mm howitzer and thought it would be nice to use it as a prime mover.

The Unimog kits scrub up quite nicely with a little work.
Heres a link giving a walkaround (and under) of one of my former baby's
http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n270/casspir/ScaleModel/MercedesNZArmy/U1300L/Ref_Pics/
And heres a finished model of an NZ puddlejumper -
http://s114.photobucket.com/albums/n270/casspir/ScaleModel/EarlyProjects/NZArmyU1300L/
The dash conversion is very straightforward, just swap glovebox for the instrument panel.
Biggest problem you'll face is that UL1700's use larger tyres and a slightly different rim.

Wow, that eBay kit ended up going for $31 + 6 s/h. That's a lot of money for just a truck kit.
