Rick-- Impressive. Can you describe the paint used for the exterior and how you applied the camouflage pattern?
thanks

Thanx for the responces. The paint is Tamiya Nato green and black.
I used blue tack ( the stuff holding up the door) to outline the camo pattern and filled the rest masking tape.

Rick,
The initial paint looks good. Interesting colours used.
Not at all to question or say the actual vehicle wasn't painted that way but I have never seen an M577 painted in just NATO green and black. The NATO paint scheme is different than older cam pattern.
The M577s I saw were always the older pattern of olive green, olive drab/khaki, and black or the NATO three colour cam. Sometimes the olive drab/khaki faded heavily beside the olive green but it was still visible. You can see the fading in the images you posted.
Are you going to put any antenna mounts on the top? What's a Command Post without antennas?
Good luck with the tracks.

Hey Jason,
According to the driver he said it was just green/black. I'm not gonna question him as I can remember the transition phase when the olive drab got dropped in the late 80's and most repainted vehicles did not recive the second colour. Come the 90's and everything went to straight green a'la LSVW and Coyote.
And yes I am planning on antenae mounts but have not decided how many? He said that there were only two radios installed, so would that be two antenae's.
I'm also in the process of scratching the penthouse, but will leave one side rolled up to see inside.
cheers

Many of our M113 and M577 in 4 AD Regt were painted green & black only in the early 90's.
My recce track from 1993:
check out the variety of roadwheel wear!
One thing - you have used the brake light instead of the turn signal
I wouldn't sweat it though, if buddy remembers there being interal fuel cells like that, chance are he won't notice the turn signals

That's nice wear on the road wheels!
I'm not too concerned with the colours, these things got painted in the parking lots LOL. (I remember back in Calgary using the tire truck's air compressor to paint all of Maint Platoons vehicles in the compound!)
Back in the 80's the turn signals were different....
Although you are correct, they are the rear lights from the Tamyia kit

Rick, that is GREAT news about those turn signals. I have lots of spare brake lights kicking around, and I have never seen them used like that! Excellent pic, thanks for posting it.

Rick coming along good except for the brackets to hold the canopy frame just above the ramp.
They look way overscale on your model compared to this shot.
There's also another pic on page one of your thread.
Just another question, the release handle for the trimvane is that a different mod for this veh because it looks a little big compared to shots also in this thread.

Nice looking 577 and that's a good interior. I wonder where the scale is is off since the upper front bulkhead is not that far back from the rear engine access panel.
I'd be interested in some more history on the Canadian M577s especially the M113 style tank. I wonder if they relocated the fuel filler tube to be on the left side as well. That's good to know about the early turn signals.

Great progress buddy, wonder if you could spare the references to build the big box you´ve made. Will be of much help to some things I´ve planned...
BTW, much completed interior than mine, I did something similar but conserving the Tamiya hull, and taking all the outside and interior bits (including wheels and tracks) from the Academy version. It turned out as a Chilean Army vehicle, of course....
Keep us posted, looking forward to see that bucket finished
Cheers

Well there wa an accident today, had to repaint the model The sensors won't let me get specific )
Anyway heres some more pics of M-113's and M-577 from Germany circa 1983ish.
Brand new APC's !!!! 1965-1966
This is the scene that i'm shooting for, after the penthouse gets put up but before the cam nets are placed.
Frame work so far...
cheers

It would be shame to hide the interior under the extension.

The plan is to roll up one side of the tarp so that you can still see the interior
Maybe a map board, table and chairs.
cheers

Those are great early 80's pics! I've never seen any of them before. Man, I'd love to have a walk-around of the tractor and trailer loading the PC into the Herc!
Good call on rolling up one side of the tarp. Are the p/house legs telescoping? I know the current ones are a constant width, but the ones in the black & white CP photos look different from current issue mod tent

Funny thing is I used to work on those :-)
Those pics were taken in Germany 1965 when the 113's were first delivered.

Yes telescopic, they are retracted to fit on the back racks.
More progress today, my olive drab rattle can ran out before I could finish the tarp Get more tomorrow.
Repainted the cam on tonight, keeping fingers crossed!
thanks for looking!
