Looking good so far. I plan on doing the same thing - Academy's M113A2 with Tamiya's M577 parts added. Keep us posted.

Well more work tonight!
If you want to use the Academy drivers hatch you have to move the hinges to the right as the M-577 has the opening 90 deg. to the hull, where as the Academy one that i'm using has the opening turned a little left?
Mating the engine cover and the generator shelf the left side stanchion has to be moved forward a little to clear the radiator cap cover.

I used white card to cover the inside of the Tamiya upper hull parts. This negates having to fill the sink holes!
Also had to move the crew commander step foward and turn it around.

here are some reference pics that i'm using. The rest is from the drivers memory.
cheers

Nice work so far, you've done a great job mating the 577 upper hull to the 113 lower, was the tamiya hull to softly detailed to use completely?

Thanx, lets just say the only parts from the Tamiya kit are the ones that i absolutely have to use!
The detail on the Academy is 100% better.
cheers

Looking good so far. Your interior is all off though. Take a look at the pic you posted.
The fuel tanks run down both sides of the hull above the sponsons. They are the long rectangles under the tables. The battery box is in the right front corner under the area that has the square shelf hanging down from the roof, next to the personnel heater. The radio shelf and box ar notin the position you have them either. The radios go on the high shelves that are on the left side of the hull.
Hope that helps.

I know, but the references arn't exactly the same as the vehicle in question.
The ACTUAL driver is giving me the low down on how his vehicle was configured.
His had the original fuel tank as per model and a few more nuances that will come into play late on
cheers

Intereesting, since all M577's come from the factory with the hull fuel tanks. He may be confusing it with an M113. But if that is what he wants, so be it.

Ya know , i'm thinking the same thing, :-)
But at least this way I don't have to scratch the fuel tanks!!!!

A little doubt...
The outside walls of M577 are not smooth seamless, are they?

It depends. Some were/are built from M113's with the upper walls added just as in the kit. Depending on how much care the depot took in grinding down the weld seams, will dictate if they show or not. Others, newer builds, are made with solid, high walls and have no seam. So either way is correct.
I had an old M577A2 in my Bn HQ in OIF1 that had prominent weld seams on the sides and rear. We also had a newer M577A3 that had no visible weld seams at all.

I for one would love to see a pic from the actual driver to support his claim of the tank is or was above the sponson.
Gino i'd love to see a pic if you have one with the seam....i'm interested as I have not seen this before on M577's

Don't forget the turn signals.
Another way around the fuel tank, if you ever want to do another, is to use external tanks. I had those on my Queen Mary one eye was a TC in 119 AD Bty.
Are you doing Green/OD/Black cam?

Tx, you know I totally gapped the turn signals !

shall fix that today.
If I had a choice the A2 external tanks would have been a easier set-up, but this is built from an actual vehicle there was no option LOL.
The paint on this was just green and black, no khaki.
cheers

It's hard to say from the pics, but did you paint the interior green? It should be 1-GP-12c: 503-118, a kind of mint ice cream shade...however, I have heard of earlier Cdn AFV being painted white on the inside (never seen it personally though).
AFV Club make a set of Diehl tracks that come with the correct sprocket, but you'll need the indy links as the rubber ones do not c/w the Cdn drive sprocket.
JBOT and Archer offer a good selection of Cdn markings too. I'm looking forward to seeing this project completed! Nice work!

It is hard to tell, but yes it is a pale mint almost white colour.
