I've decided to change my kit for the campaign. Several years ago, Nate (aka Porkchop) sent me some kits he was no longer interested in for my kids to build. One of the ones that my son started was the Tamiya 251/9 Ausf. D Kanonenwagen.

Nate had started it and my son gave it a shot as well. He gave up and it's been in a box for at least 5 years. As I was cleaning out my infamous stash, I ran across the box and took a look inside. I think I can finish this thing up after some deconstruction.

I took off the road wheels and chipped off the excess glue. About the only thing my son did was add the road wheels, Nate had already primed the lower hull and had added the two side hull parts with the road wheel mounting arms to the lower hull.

I ran across the Part PE set for the kit and have started contruction on the the interior. If you've never tried Part PE, I'd recommend it to anyone. Really nice stuff, better than Eduard and not as daunting as Aber. It does have some working box lid hinges though.

As to which ribbon I prefer, doesn't matter to me. Whatever the majority chooses is fine by me.

I havn't started anything yet for this campaign. I have been taking a mini-break from modeling the last couple weeks. I had been going at it pretty hard and just needed a little break from the work bench.

Later this week I hope to be back at it.

Jeff

No worries Jeff, I, myself am taking a week break. It good to get away from the kits for a while. Take a breather.

Hello everyone

Here are some pics of my progress. It's Dragon's M2 Halftrack. I've built it straight from the box. I used the new Archer decals for the interior and made some gaspedals from plasticcard.

Still a long way to go.

Nice goin Patrick. Keep up the good job!

My beast has arrived (in my backpack actually)

The box looks like someone sat on it but everything inside is intact. I'm getting to work tomorrow evening. This is my first kit from Dragon and I just couldn't take my eyes of it on my way home, it's so cool compared to all the revellish-itallerish wingies I built in highschool
..the tracks look quite scary though

I have a little question before I start messing with the parts. Do you think I could get a go on a review of this kit? I'm a noob on AFV modelling but a noob's review could be useful for other newbies... don't you think? There isn't a review on this one in the reviews section and hardly anyone mentions it in the forums.

Cheerio guys!

with the individual track links, whatever you do don't fix the mudguards in place before you mount the tracks and if possible fit the tracks before you instal the hull sides

i made a right mess of my 251 tracks and therefore she had to look like she's just driven half way across europe in mud just to cover up the mess

looks a good kit though, hurry up with some photos

Sure, why not. That's what reviews are for.
Take a look at how people on this forum has written several reviews and just write down your own opinion about this kit. I will always be helpfull to some people.

Finally I started to build the Tamiya 250/9.
I have a question, though. I can't locate any photos of these vehicles in Hungary, 1944. They were supposed to have the usual three-toned camo. That's all I know. Does anyone have any ideas what this camo might have looked like? Patches, stripes, ambush?
Is there an easy way to simulate the springs on the back of the seats?

Thanks...

Hello gentlemen, its been a while. Must say work have been getting the best of me Well, during my short absence, i have seen many of you people posting up your built.

Damn! You guys are fast. That is good and i have also uploaded the medal for this campaign.

Anyway, i have some news for you people by the higher authorities. Most of you are still building as we all know, i will need you guys to blog about your own built as you progress. Well, i find that this will be more interesting to find out more about the kit you are building. Please do create another thread of your own for the blog built.

So guys, if you have any queries, do drop me a mail. Appreciate your coop, thank you guys!!

Hi Patrick. What Danial meant was creating a seperate topic in the Campaigns section for your build. Sth like: 'Of Wheels and Tracks: M2 Halftrack blog', where you'll put all the pics and report on the progress of your work

Some of the guys put their blogs in the 'Constructive Feedback' area.

Thank you Mikolaj. Yes Patrick, that is what i meant. this way i can see your progress.

Lets say if the dead line is today and you guys are still struggling with finishing up your kit, i can still estimate how long you will need to complete it if you post up your progress. Besides that we can also give good or not-so-good feedback of the kit.

At the end of the day, its all about sharing in Armorama.

I found out that I had the AFV Club Wheels and Tracks set for the SdKfz 251 half track. That makes things easier since I no longer have to try to salvage the wheel that were attached with tube glue by my son.

I'm in too! CH 251/23 Ausf.D with the 2cm turret in the stash! I love the totally enclosed look. Planned on doing it in the next 4 or so projects anyway.

I couldn't get my hand on the Eduard's PE for this kit and finally I gave up on it. I think I'll just try to add some scratch detail to it. Any help/suggestions much appreciated.

Hi there

I had this problem too. In the end I got a set for the Sd.Kfz 251. The parts were very similar and I used almost all of it. See what you think.

Thanks for the hint Stuart. I'll take a look at these. Eduard's website has some really great pics of their sets, including photos of models with all the PE already in place

It'll be easy to compare these two sets.

I am building the Tamiya Sd. Kfz 7/1 Flakvierling halftrack and was looking for some nice close up photos of the actual 20mm Flakvierling 38 unit itself. I found a bunch of photos online but very few that were nice close up shots. I also found a walk-around site with the flakvierling but all the pics were fuzzy digital :-). I was wondering if any of you fine modelers were aware of any websites where I can find some nice close up photos of this unit. The walk around photos were in a museum somewhere--just couldnt find the museum name in the photos :-(. Thanks in advance for any help with this issue. -=S=-

Hey Guys,

I'm putting mine M2 halftrack on hold for a while. Blast models has come with a nice after-market kit. They have released a stowage kit for Dragon's M2 halftrack, and I think it's a nice finishing touch. I can't work any further, otherwise all the work from now on, will be done for nothing.
I get back to you as soon as the kit has arrived. Until then, I'm monitoring your progress.

Hey Patrick
Maybe this will help a little:

http://www.tanxheaven.com/fedcol/sdkfz7-2/sdkfz7-2.htm
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SdKfz_7

I bought the kit myself a couple of months ago.
Happy modelling.

@Patrick--thanks for the links--already been to two of them but the other ones had some good pics. The best walk around of the flakvierling AA unit I could find was at the link below. Problem is that pics are kinda fuzzy but good enough to get a general idea.

This is what I plan to build for this campaign. Its been in my mind since 90", I recently aquired the scorpion kit,so I can cast the running gear, and I will use the Italeri kit that will be modified to these updated build standards.

That is one cool looking vehicle. Correct me if i am wrong but the front part looks like a land rover. :-) Kinda cool.

Can't wait to see the end product Todd.

I forgot I had a M2 sitting in pieces in primer that I could enter too. I need to break out the paint and make sure I actually finished building everything. Its one of those things I dove into full speed for a couple nights and gave up on it I had originally got it for this campaign before it was officially started and worked on it a little earlier during the winter.
