This is the diorama I very recently finished. It's of a US dock late in WW2.
It's in 1:350 scale with
Iron Shipwright's
USS Alaska
USS Pittsburge
HMS Zulu converted to HMAS Arunta
Raven Class Minesweeper
PC 461 Patrol Craft
Woban class Tugs
Trains, Rolling stock and Vehicles.
Yankee Modelworks
USS Balau - Gato class sub
Trumpeter's
Jerimiah O'Brian Liberty Ship
Everything else was scratchbuilt. Yes, it does light up. Time taken to build - 6 months
I am only recently doing armour dio's because of my facination for the WW2 Geman seige guns, hence my Savastopol railhead and Anzio Annie bombardment scenes.

Kym, this is a beautiful piece of work, magnificant! 6 months to build, wow if I tried that it'd be over a year! Love how it lights up as well, looks most realistic in the "night time" Can't stop looking at it.

Hi Kym,
The quality of your work and the detail is breathtaking and must be stunning to see it in the flesh. I know that I have seen some of your work on the link that you sent me, but I am amazed at what you have achieved here. That is all I can really say, except I still wonder where the inspiration comes from to produce these superb works of art.

Really incredible, especially at night. I can't imagine the expense that went into this, with all those resin ships, not to mention the time. Six months? The only way I could have done anything even remotely close to this in six months is if I quit my job, left my wife, and worked on it every waking minute.
As a Navy history buff I like being able to see the relative size of the various ship types, especially the Alaska and the Pittsburgh. That's something a dio like this can really show so much better than just the kits by themselves.

Hi Kim,
Ho, Ho, Ho - very nice indeed. This looks like anexcellent pices of work, you've given a lot of time and attention to the detail and done a brilliant job. Lots of interesting things to look at and the ships and the docks look great.

Kym,
Nicely done! How big is the overall diorama? Certainly a great deal to look at!

Roger, very close. Wife left me (good riddance), quit my job (had enough of mining), and work on models everyday (in a purpose built 25 x 10 meter shed - heaven)

I'm not sure what you mean by H/T's, but if it's the trains and rolling stock, then from here.

Wow Kym. That has got to be the most impressive dio ive ever seen hands down. The fact that you catered for the night setting is even more impressive!
I was just curious but would it be hard to include lighting on your frigates?
Excellent work!

The lighting was added as an afterthought. If I had planned it from the beginning, the cranes, the holds of the Liberty ship and maybe(with a lot of work) the bridges of the two cruisers would have been lit.

What a fantastic work. Congratulations.
I did one ship years ago. It was just enought to appreciate what you have done here.
For a moment i thought that you could have wheatered a bit more the buildings, but realize that a hangar at 1/350 does not amount to a lot of surface to wheater. How high are those barrels ? 1 mm ?
Cheers
