Greetings all,

Have added some 'cheek armour' comments welcome.

Duckbills are under construction and some new periscopes arrive also so I can finish off the hatches.

Cheers

Looking very good Alan. I like the use of the fender stowage. Always a neat solution to a problem.
Have you decided who is going to 'own' her yet?

Hi Tony,

Probably one of the units from 4th Armd Bde.

The Royal Scots Greys, 3CLY and 44 RTR all had Sherman II's. This one is based on a picture, unit unknown, but most likely 3 CLY.

All three served in N. Africa, Italy and NWE, so any would probably suit my purpose.

Cheers

Hi guys,

Hmmmm, not much feed back on the cheek armour so I'll assume it OK :-) :-) :-)

Some more progress pics. The new turret on the mid production version still needs to be blended in a bit more.

I have the tracks on the late but still have a lot of work to do. Comments and suggestions welcome.

Mid with a few crew

Hi Al: Two small comments: 1) I've done the cheek armor on a couple of cheek armors before -- I try to make sure that the seam at the rear part of the thickening is smoother. Yours seems to be highlighted by a shadow or something. In actual turrets it seems like a continuous unbroken line.

Here are some good reference images: http://www.usarmymodels.com/ARTICLES/Sherman%20Corner/Turrets/shermanturrets.html

2) the applique armor patch on the left side seems to be too far forward. They closely corresponded with where the ammo bins were located inside on the sponsons.

Hi Roy,

Thanks for the reference and the feedback.

Re the LHS applique armour. Pics were scarce but I have two in British Tanks in Normandy page 42 and 43 and it showes the LHS plate forward at the beginning of the rise, as I have it.

I originally placed it further back, but it was pointed out that it was too far back :-) :-) :-) (had to saw the bugger off lol, lol.)

From the pics I have I would say it's OK. On the Mk II Hybrid it most certainly does site further back, the back end of the plate being almost at mid turret level.

Thanks for the reference on the cheek armour. I didn't see a picture of the rear just the front. I might smooth the bottom back edge a little bit. On the picture there seems to be another smaller rise towards the lower back of the turret - a small square?

As always thanks for the links.

Cheers

Greetings all,

Started work on the DV hull from Formations. This one will take a bit longer being a mix and match of several kits.

Some more updfates on the M4 A1 early.

Doing a little experimentation with a 'pinki' hull effect to see what happens.

Still some small fittings to go on the enghine deck, some filling around the front and the tracks and side skirts to sort out,. There are a different shape of vents on the rear deck, I'll need to sort some mesh for them and the rear lights don't appear to have any guards on the early version.

The DV hull looks great AL, what suspension are you using?
I have a DV hull from Cromwell that I'm planning to build up for the Paint it yellow campaign so I'll be watching this with interest.

Btw there are some interesting photos of British M4A1/76s or Mk IIAs should I say, popping up over on missing links that might you give you an excuse to build another Sherman

Hi Pat,

Thanks for the link, funny enough an M4A1 Mk IIA appeared a few days ago :-) :-) :-) , so the pics will be most useful.

Re the suspension I just use the parts fronm the old Tamiya Grant as I can also use the boxes and early lights on another project and with a figure as well it was cheaper than going resin, some of whch still seemed to have issues about height.

Hi Al
That looks really good. What was the donor kit and where did you get the bustle box. I have not seen that one before.
Keep posting.

Hi Tony,

The donor kit is the Dragon M4A1 6048 kit that I got through Lucky Models and the Blanket Box is a Formations kit as is the upper hull.
You can get them direct from Formations or through Ian at Friendship Models:

http://www.friendshipmodels.com/

The Turret is from a Tamiya M4.

Glad you like it so far.
