Hello, can anyone tell me what were the standard colours for items of German personal equipment, i.e., bread bags, canteens , gas mask cases and especially the colour of the standard bayonet frog. army and ss as a pose to luftwaffe.
i use the trusty humbrol range if any one has a standard set pattern
thanks
ted

Its hard to give you a list of the lot sorry Ted.
Your best bet is to follow the painting guide on the kit you bought and/or do some research around on the internet. The Osprey book David suggested is excellent and will answer all of your questions. Otherwise have a look around the site at figures people have painted and you'll start to build up a good idea of the colours to use.
Sorry to avoid the question, hope this helps.

It seemed the Jerry's had many different colors for their gear, even for the same theatre of operation. I have seen 4-5 different colors for the haversack for example (blue, grey, light grey, brown, tan)

thanks for that chaps, it seems i had the basic colours ok, it was just the bayonet frogs that had me flumoxed, some i've seen are a brown/tan colour and some black
the trouble is, trying to compete with what one sees on here is quite a task but the help and ideas are beyond compare

hey,
in my collection ive got 4 canteens ,a mint never used canteen dated 1938 the wool cover is a grayish green, snaps are gloss black ,cup is black, black leather strap.
second dated 1941 is DAK,med brown cotton twill cover, small round drinking cup thats black.
three and four are greenish wool cover ,unpainted snaps, reddish brown leather straps.olive green cups.
bread bag is green canvas ,black leather straps, unpainted buttons and snaps.german haversack is very much like the bread bag,in color and construction.
shovel case is black leather'
tunic belt and y straps are black leather.DAK had heavy brown canvas y straps issued, but leather could also be found.belt buckles could ethier be unpainted or painted dk.green
gas mask canisters are field gray(much light than panzer gray),also have two in green, the one dated 1944 much darker green than the one dated 1942.Luftwaffe where a deep bluish/gray.
majority of my bayonet frogs for the combat bayonet are a deep dark reddish brown, but have two with early dates, that are black, and my two bayonets that where issued waffen SS,are a very ruff surfaced jet black.and feel abit heavier than standard issue.
flashlights that attached to the tunic buttons where painted jet black
