HI THERE

I'm looking for figures for my upcoming dio set in the Falklands.

I'd like to make a scene showing some British Marines marching along a road and for that I'm looking for...SURPIRSE...useful figures.

I know Tamiya has made a stretcher team and with some scratch building here and there they could be useful. Do you know any other figures that would fit?

Also, I'm looking for some reference about the Marines' equipment: backpacks, radios, machinguns etc. Any website or book?

Hope you can help me

Thanks in advance

Hi there

Thanks so much for your interest and help. I'll chek the sites and decide what to do then.

I thought of using Dragons SAS set. Their trousers and jackets looks RM-like, and with some scratchbuilding on the webbing and here and there I should think it'll work out fine.

Thanks again, and I'll kep you posted as I get along

Kirin make a very nice set - i have it in the stash somewhere.
It is a two figure set one fellow has a GPMG and the other a FN-FAL (SLR).
Firestorm models also offer SLR's if you go the kitbash route.

G'day Simon, i picked one of the Kirin kits up of eBay a few weeks ago.
They show up from time to time. However the kit that I receved was still sealed but had Italeri weapons in it as well as the resin ones. Bonus!
So now I have 2 sets. With one set to be converted for a vignette.

Cheers Jason

Hi Simon although a lot of equipment would be 58 pattern webbing. The marines used a lot of civilian rucksacks (bergans) these would just be a general green colour. Some of them also used civilian gaiters with their ankle length DMS boots. Hope this is of some use for you.

Edit 20.45 I tried to upload photos but had problems. The first 1 was quite famous showing the marines marching across the Falklands. Another thing to add is that there are very few tarmac roads in the Falklands (most of these are in Port Stanley). Dirt tracks were normal.

Try tracking down New Hope Designs, they did a series of Falkland War figures.

Hi there

A little update.

With thanks for your help and reading Ospreys MAA about the landforces in the Falklands, I've managed to make ONE figure!
I've used one of the figures form Dragons SAS kit, the guy with the hood, and made him into a marine with a rifle (from Italeris old Modern Inf. Weapons set), a Verlinden head, some homemade webbing from foil and backpacks, ammunitionpouches and such from varoius sets and a sleeping bag made out of clay. Sorry for not bringing any pictures of him - have problems with me camera and publishing pictures to my harddisk - but I'll soon post pictures of him.

In all a very interesting project so far, since scratchbuilding and creative thinking about the soldiers equipment are needed.

Thanks again guys for your ideas and inputs - and pictures.

I'll keep you posted, also with the dio groundwork as soon as the final figures are made.

So long

Simon
