Roger-copy Drader,
Definite bookmark page there!
Guys, see this one, the internal explosion split the hull in twain! Is that an 88 penetration R of the drivers visor?

BTW< David, can anyone make out what that is on the horizon to the left of the carcass? Another dreadnaught of some type (T-28 w/o smaller turrets), an armored train vehicle?

Wow! Wonder what hit that one to cause that type of destruction.

Most of the damage is the result of the detonation of the onboard ammunition, specially in the second photo where the RHS has been pushed out, that must be internal.
The hole is first pic is probably not a penetration - the KV Big Turret had a pistol port there, the internal explosion must have blown the plug out. The tank in the background of the photo in my post looks on cursory inspection like a KV-1.

What is difficult to determine is how many vehicles of this period (beginning of Barbarossa or Taifun) were actually lost to German action, how many were actually destroyed by their own crews and how many (loads) were simply dumped after breaking down or running out of fuel.
At that point (apart from the 88) there were few German weapons capable of penetrating a KV2 although a direct hit from artillery fire would turn it into scrap iron...

That looks like a KV-1 on the horizon. Look to the right of the turret and that looks like an engine access door is open, maybe?

Convinced it's a KV-1, apparently with someone standing on the hull roof in front of the turret and with the two circular access hatches over the gearbox/final drives open.
