The artwork looks a little imaginative - the Commonwealth soldier in Plate O2 is surely based on a picture of a Chindit!
The Superga Private in Plate H2 looks very much like an illustration of an Italian private in Greece from an old Blandford book (IIRC one with a Chindit like the one above coincidentally), with a bit of foliage added.
