Aloha everyone!

I'm sure all of you at one time or another has picked up a kit at a bargain discount, say at a kit show or yard sale and then got home and realized "I just don't know what to do with this model". This is the case with a Tamiya 1/35th scale Leopard 1 A4 I just picked up. Although I did come across one idea but need your help in finding out if I can do this conversion with this particular kit. Anyone know if Maple Leaf Models Leopard 1 A5 conversion will work with this Tamiya kit? The kit suggested for the conversion is the Leopard 1 A4 from Italeri and since I don't have this one and can't get the Revell Leopard 1 A5 anymore I'm a little bit of a pickle.....HELP

Thanks in advance,

Kurt

Hello Kurt ,
The Tamiya Leopard 1A4 , as well as the Italeri Leopard 1A4 , would work for a Canadian Leopard C1, since it has the welded turret , slab sided . The Revel Leopard 1A5 has a rounded cast turret , which would work for a Canadian Leopard C2. The Maple Leaf conversion sets gives you all the " add ons " , but you need the kit supplied turret to carry out the modifications. They offer conversion sets for a Leopard C1 , and a C2 . The kit suggested ,is for a Leopard C1 conversion , but the Tamiya Leopard 1A4 should work just as well . I hope this helps

Hey Frank,

Do you happen to know what country (countries) might still use the Leopard 1 A4?

Think the A4 was the first to go out of service, I don't think it even lasted long enough to get the NATO 3-colour scheme.

You could use the Accurate Armor conversion to build a Danish Leopard 1A3 or 1A5 or there are two conversions to build an Australian Loepard AS1.

Besides the Canadian C1, those are the only currently used Leopard 1Ia know of that use the Leopard 1A3/A4 turret.

Turkey also has some modified Leopard 1A4s.
