Great diorama! The imagery is very effective. The figures look lifelike (except the dead terrorist of course :-) )

Lots of detail to draw the eye without taking away from the overall scene. The stashed artillery rounds in the ruin are an interesting touch, meant to be future IEDs or similar use?

I dunno. Looks great, really great modeling. Usually there's an outcry when dead bodies are presented in a very picturesque way. I'm stunned that no one objected yet. It leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

Nah a few dios already had something similar before, especially when i ran the Purple Hearts campaign.
Admittedly there would be others that don't exactly enjoy the gruesome bits but we certainly try not to interfere when it comes to creative license.
Fair enough comment though.

Great job. Cool diorama that tells the story very effectively.
I do not see a problem with dead persons/figures in a diorama. Fine with me. The news brings more graphic pictures than this.
Thanks for sharing

Oh please, grow up and drop the PC crap. It is only a chunk of resin with some dark red paint. Why is it fine to model the instruments of war and not the actual effects of warfare? People die in war, that is how it is.
How about showing more of the realities of war and not the BS that usually is shown in dios? I am sick of seeing all the dios showing Nazis glorified; eating sausage and having a good time sitting around sipping champagne.
I have been in war. It isn't all nice and sterile and sipping champagne. I think we owe it to those who were there to model it realistically and not make it all nice and neat so people are not offended. War is offensive and we should never forget that.
Stepping off my soapbox now...
Sorry Pete, as I have said, Great dio. Good job.

Hi Gino .... I agree with you say ... except for the above. It may have started life that way, but now it is part of something else, something that has its own identity. The problem is .. as with all "art", people interpret it in different ways.
Personally I can see it as a diorama with some great modelling skills but it does realistically capture the horror of war. And the fact that it can/does stir emotions in some people, gives it an even greater appeal in my books.
Excellent dio Pete. Eventhough I’m not a modern armor fan, anything loaded up with lots of cool stowage will always draw my attention. As a dio, the composition is perfect … loads of details, figures are connecting nicely, believable scene ... the storyline is clear, everything is done to an excellent standard … and as mentioned previously, captures perfectly the reality of war. Nice one.

What did you use to model the M240 mount? I'm disappointed that Trumpeter did not include it or that I haven't seen it done aftermarket.
I think AEF designs' update has one but they don't have a pic of it on their site.
Btw, the dio looks great.

Very well done, Pete. I really like the overall composition, and you did an excellent job on the figures. The LAV looks even better than it did on its own when you uploaded some pics of it a while back.
Like Jimmy, I'm curious where you got the M240 scissor mount. I've decided to turn my Trumpeter LAV into an OIF vehicle, and that's the one piece I'm still wondering how I'm going to get or build.

Actually, Gino, I'm grown up. I don't appreciate the glorification of the German army and SS either -mainly for political reasons. (And because I'm a pacifist, no matter how strange it sounds in this hobby.) You know, they started an illegal war, killed civilians -it's kind of hard to forget . As a matter of fact, I don't appreciate the glorification of any military. But you know, politics aside: there's a general agreement, that the "realities of war" are off limit. Mainly because you want to honor the memories of the fallen, whomever they might be, and, because they are not a nice sight to watch.
But, my God, what am I saying, you're right. It's only a piece of plastic, and, as you said, we have to show the "realities".
Here's a dio idea for you. (Took a second to find it, I'm sure you can find some more if you don't like it.)
I'm sure Verlinden will come out with some "Dead Iraqi Children, 1/35" soon.

Yes, all ages are killed in war. Unfortunately that happens. However, that picture looks staged to me. It looks too clean and real blood is not that color. Photo-shop is great. Also, the web site associated with it is a known radical, anti-western website that routinely shows doctored photos to attempt to further their cause of radical propaganda.
I still stand by my statements. You can be a pacifist all you want, but don't try to force your misplaced morality on the rest of us. If it is upsetting to you, don't look at it.
Fortunately there are those of us who are willing to fight so you can have the right to be a pacifist if you choose to be.

Yes, I guess, the photo (and any other that's not for your liking) is staged. Use google; I'm sure you can find a lot more. Since this is a free community (last time I checked), I have every right to make my ethical objections, so please, don't come with this attitude. It is very undemocratic of you.
I'm sure there's a policy here, by the way, on armorama, that current events are off-limit. However, since you mention it: please don't "fight for us" in an illegal war in a country that did not threaten anybody (except it's own population). It somehow makes the world less save for everybody, you know.

Go spout your political B.S. somewhere else. I didn't bring anything political into it. Why don't you step out of your grad-school lab and see the real world. You are obviously living in a bubble. Take a look at reality, the world isn't as nice and neat as you would like it to be.

I like the scene. I don't find it overly gruesome. I agree with Gino and others, that it's odd that we build models of killing/maiming machines, but can "never" show blood.
One thing I noticed is the lack of slings on the M16s, and the lack of any extras on the rifles, such as scopes, ANPEQ2 aiming devices, etc. These are Marines though, and, at least early in the war, as this seems to depict, did not have as many of the gizmos at that point.
Overall, a well-done project.

Ive never heard of such an agreement, and I dont see any glorification expressed in the dio. But it is a mitlitary modelling site, and some "modelled" blood spill, from time to time, is inevitable.
Your choices of being a pacifist and a military modeller are somewhat confusing, but choosing to seek out images of dead children doesn´t clarify your situation any better. Choosing to post those images here, on a modelling site, does not give your "ethical objections" any extra weight either.
Im sure you´ve now caused more offence than any model ever could.

When you wrote that: "Fortunately there are those of us who are willing to fight so you can have the right to be a pacifist if you choose to be.", you bought the politics into this "discussion". I only defended myself from a personal attack. (And you still keep attacking my person... I guess this "respect other's opinion" does not work very well with you. How very democratic.)
I know the world is a nasty place. It doesn't have a place for reason. It's amazing that even after this and this people like you still beating the war drums...
