Hi guys,

Just started the Accurate Armour Austin Tilly. This will be my first full resin build.

A really neat little vehicle. The parts seem to fit like a glove.

Opps - wheel moved!!!!

Well onto the resin and PE steering wheel !!!!!

Cheers

Looks nice!
But I guess it's also expensive, isn't it?

Hi Alan,

Tis looking very nice, but if you dont mind me sticking my oar in?

I would honestly say that whether you are painting by brush or airbrush, it is always worth priming resin kits or indeed add-on parts as it gives a better bite when painting and weathering. If you have not obtained any of the finer grade Mr Surfacer [1200 is good], nip down to Halfords and invest in a tin of automotive primer in an aerosol. Go out side and have the satisfaction of having a blast...........go on, go on, go on........

Hi Giacomo,

Yip, the kit's not cheap. I got in in the 'Widows Sale' so I managed to save a few pounds which always helps.

It's a very simple kit and I'm surprised it hasn't been done in plastic as these were the British jeep and widely used.. Probably not sexy enough but who knows one day :-) :-) :-)

I do like the shape and the sort of van like quality :-) :-) :-) :-)

Cheers

Hi John,

You're trying to lead me to the dreaded spray gun lol, lol.

When I get some of the tiny PE parts and stuff attatched I'll give it a go. I normally just build up the paint work slowly, but then being a novice I would.

i don't know what you'll be wanting me to use next, washes and filters and all that stuff, and even fix the decals :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

On another note. I was thinking of leaving the cover off and just making some tilts and fixing them, grouped together at the back of the cab. It lools like it could be delivering milk or bread and I'm almost tempted to paint it red/cream and add 'Jones the Butcher' :-) :-) :-) :-)

It has a great shape I think.

Cheers

Hi Craig,

Derek pointed me in the right direction thanks.

Hi Jerry,

Thanks, it's moving along slowly. Got a bit sidetracked yesterday in adding the side skirts to my early M4A1, but have the chassis primed and the first coat of paint on.

This kit really deserves an outing in plastic.

Hi Private,

This is my first full resin kit. It's a good kit to start on not too complicated. Takes longer as some of the resin parts are very fragile and removing the plus is a pain. That said, it's not as bad as I feared.

Hi Guys,

Have made some progress on the Tilly. Added the driver who will be drinking tea and talking out the window. Added the steering wheel, back seats, spare wheel and shovel. I have added some windows and fashioned some tilts from copper wire as I intend to have the back open.

Does anyone know if the tiolts were joined by support rods a bit like the 15cwt?

I have some items, rifle, matlock to add behine the driver/co driver once I figure out exactly where they go and some wipers and fittings for the tail gate.

Commentys welcome

Cheers

Al

Wow Alan! You keep pumping them out! From tanks to trucks, what a combination! It looks alot better now that it has a driver and some paint.

Looks great!

Hi Jeff,

Thanks, I had a good day at it today and I've just realised that I'm closer to gettting the build done than I though.

It's a neat little kit. More tomorow!!!!!

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for taking the time to post, glad you're enjoying it so far. I have added the support bars and wipers since the last post and hopefully have only a few more small items to complete.

Cheers

My only quibble with your model is that Accurate Armour have pushed the front wheels up under the mudguard which gives it a peculiar nose down stance,; the top of the wheel should be just visible under the guards http://www.armyvehicles.dk/austin10hp.htm But I'm just being picky

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for the feedback. I have the original article from MM Magazine and I also saw the build pictures over on the MM site and the pics of the restored Tilly.

I'd be inclined to agree with you, it seems to be a little low. Here's a picture of a wartime Tilly

and the arches would seem to clear the wheels if only just.

I can make a small adjustment as I didn't join the cab to the rear as per the instructions - and a very small amount of filler should correct the problem.

That said it's been a great wee kit to built for my first full resin kit. Pity the kits are so expensive.

Cheers

Nice looking Tilly. Do you take time out to sleep between kits?
