Any one ever considered changing the eras that they model? such as modern to WWII or WWII to modern due to selection/availability of models

I imagine that I will always stay with the WWI and WWII eras. Those are my main areas of interest. There are some very cool modern armor kits out there but they just don't spark any interest with me.

I constantly swing between old wwII and modern vehicles. I guess
it's to do which mood I'm in when selecting a new kit. Lately it has
been quite a lot of wwII kits. I think the older stuff is... how should
I put it... more romantic and pure and the modern stuff appeals
more to the technologic and brute force side of me...

I don't think I could ever chose sides in this :-)

I move around between modern and wwII, land and ship. Sure as hell makes the paint budget much higher.

In the works now I have a Nimitz carrier and a fletcher destroyer(both 1350th), an M2 halftrack, Stuart honey, an LAV 25 and an M1 AIM(1/35th). When all that is finished I am going to start an F86(1/48th) and an Avenger(1/32) pair, and a Sovremenny class destroyer(1/200)....All different scales, nations, and eras for the most part...None of the paint works for any two of them.

I move around quite a bit. Right now I am on a modern kick but am looking forward to doing something from WW2 next.

I started building 1/72 scale WW2 German armor because of all the new Dragon kits in this scale.

I thought I'd throw this out there as I've been compteplating also modeling WWII as the manufactures tend to release much less in Modern equipment/FIGURES than WWII equipment/FIGURES

I bounce around subject era's alot as well. I guess it is a version of modellers ADD. I have several types/era's in various stages right now.

Tamiya
M26 Pershing
M2A2 Bradley
M1A1 Abrams
Israeli Merkava
Leopard 2A5
Flakpanzer Wirbelwind
Wespe

Testors/Itelari
Russian HOKUM helicopter

I have a 1/35th UH-60 DAP, 1/32nd F/A-18C and a F-117. So, my interests bounce around.

I started with 1/48 WWII Allied aircraft, then moved to modern US ships, then to 1/35 WWII Allied armour, and have kept solely with modern armour for the past 15 years.

I'm jumping freely between ww2 and modern. Presently working on a Wirbelwind (Achtung Jabo campaign) and a M247 Sgt York. At least they're both flak vehicle :-)

I don't think I would completely change eras because of a kit release. I do have some interest in WWII American trucks and bridging equipment, but have no interest whatsoever in WWII German tanks or equipment. Mainly I stick with Vietnam to modern subjects, but will build kits like the Dragon Wagon when its issued. Might even have to build a tank just to put something on it!

I might eventually get bored with this period, but honestly I can say that a rash of really nice WWII kit issues would not be the reason for my change.

I don't have a particular era that I model. I model what I like hence the over abundance of plastic of all types on my shelves. Its nice to build some armor and then follow it up with a nice car or plane or .........you get the idea. "Q"

I wish they would make more modern armor versus doing the WWII offerings over and over again.

My main interest is WWII, but there are some subjects out there (like the MBT 71, Ontos, etc) that I think would gain a bigger audience in modern armor.

I think its all based on "what you relate to". when I was young and started modelling, my main interest was WW2 era models. Eventually, I got tired of that and started building Vietnam era models which at the time had a very limited selection. Any more, I build primarily modern stuff, but occasionally, I will do something from the WW2 era. I would never say I switched from one era to another. I would only say that differant subjects inspired me at differant times and held my interest for longer then others. Regardless, I think its a good habbit as a modeller to "change" periodically and tackle something new. You can only build so many Shermans and Tigers, ya know?
