Well heres the idea. Recently with alot of other models ig ot a Tamiya Flak 88. And Thought up a Diorama for it. The Idea is to have the 88 Hidden Near Some trees. But heres the cool part. Im Gonna Try and find a 1/35 P51 Mustang And Have it Strafing the 88. I Can have it low to the ground and supported by some sort of Clear Stick. And Using the same type of clear stick make tracers attached to the p51 heading to the 88 and Puffs on the ground and the crew running. Its just a small idea that will prolly never happen but it sounds good to me

Your idea is not impossible davy.

A couple of weeks ago I saw a site that was called dynamic diorama`s (believe that was it) I looked it up at goole today but I couldn`t find the URL, maybe it`s out of the air. maybe someone has got the URL and can post it.
Till that time you have to do it with my explanation.
On this site there were some pictures of a massive dio of a german train that got attacked by two P51`s i believe. The train was just crossing a bridge and the two planes were flying really low. The guy who made this dio had the planes fixed to some trees that were a bit larger then the restand the dio looked really good. there was such an action in it. on board of the (armored) train was also an AA gun firing at the planes. no bullets or tracers but the figures did all the action

for planes that could match with 1:35 I think you can best look for a 1:32 P51 as you`ll almost won`t see the difference in scale.

I think it`s a great idea and if the execution is good then you will have a stunning dio

That's a good idea you've had !
But you are about to have a big problem : size !
For the plane to be shooting, it has to be far from the gun emplacement, and at 1/35 th scale, that would make a hughe dio !
I see 2 solutions or this : 1 have the plane flying over the gun just after it has straffed it, or 2 use 1/72nd scale instead of 1/35th !
Anyway, good luck !

I agree with the size issue and the idea. Great Idea - size is the biggest hurdle.

So instead of beating up the hurdle - go with it. Do a "forced perspective" diorama. Make the plane 1/72 or 1/48 and use the viewing angle and different scales to make it look like the plane is actually farther away than it really is.
If you need more on Forced Perspective post again. We'll explain.

Or have the 1/32 P-51 pulling up after the strafing run to avoid any AA. The forced perspective idea is also a good one.For a gun run 1/48 would be the best scale for a plane.Whatever you do though make sure that if the plane is doing a gun run,he cant be low enough to hit surrounding trees if there are any and he cant be to high cause the 50 cals wont be as effective.

You also have to consider the angle of attack versus the altitude and speed unless you want your pilot to dig a hole in the ground with his Mustang.

Forced perspective almost has to be in a boxed situation to control what the viewer is seeing. Otherwise, you have planes firing at Godzilla sized Weermacht troops. You could have the plane at the back at a low angle coming straight into the flak. I think 1/72 would work well here. You could attach the plane with a rod directly out the tail to the back wall. In fact, this way you could add a second plane peeling off with the wing man still firing. If you can do fiberoptics, you could lead these to the gun ports and show the "firing" that way.

Roadkill thanks for the info on Dynamic Dioramas........It is now in my 3473 item favorites list. Davhowell great idea....let us know how it is progressing. From the looks of the Dio that Roadkill showed..those were 1/32 scale aircraft and they looked darn good. I've just gotten into 1/32 and 1/48 scale aircraft...I'm working on the Revell Stuka right now and have finished the Revell Fieseler Storch. I think i want to do a ground Diorama of the Stuka with pilot and mechanic. Squadron has a set for $11.00. Also Davhowell you can get some pretty good prices on Aircraft out of the Squadron shop catalog. They have a Hasegawa P-51 Mustang for about 25 dollars. Good Luck! Jeff
