Ciao everyone,
With the help all of the kind folks at Big A, I was able to finish (acurately) the Second Gen of the DML Armored Infantry. I hope the pictures came out better. Thanks to many, and persuasion from Airpower, I corrected the colors of the webgear and finished the figures. Took me long enough, anyway. Hope you like them. I was at least able to change up the colors of the weapons. I know that there are shoulder straps for the weapons, but if there is anyone out there who can use those photoetch straps and make them look realistic, he or she is a better modeler than I. Comments welcome.
Ciao for now
Rob

Hi Rob,
Very nice figs. If it's of any use I use rolled lead wire. Cheap and flexible 0.4mm is about right for slings. Just roll it flat with a wallpaper roller.
Cheers

Gday Rob
Splendid effort.
You have given them life here mate!
I have the set and am yet embark on their construction...
The only thing I'd do a little different is to make the whites of their eyes a little more subdued...
What did you use as a wash?
I know what you mean about the PE slings; a right royal pain in the ar se
Cheers

Ciao Alan and Brad,
Thanks for the comments. I appreciate it!
Alan - thats a good idea. I am thinking about using muffler tape (thin metal with adhesive on one side.) It's cheap and easy to use.
Brad - That PE stuff is just too stiff for me. Great detail, though. Yeah, the eyes look better in real life, but in the pictures, the one guy eyes look bugged out, but that's because he is looking to his right, making the white really stick out on the left side. For a wash, I always use black tempura paint (cheap stuff from the craft shops.) It works great for me.
Again, thanks for the compliments. Now, I have to figure out what dio to put them in. Something simple and cheap.

Hi Rob,
There are lots of different methods. The rolled wire does give you consistence of width though something that is sometimes hard to get and it's quite easy to fix and bend into and appropriate shape.
Have fun.

Nicely painted figures Rob! if it's any help, I use the foil off the top of sparkling wine or Champagne (to get this you have the real fag of having to drink it!!!). You can cut it easily with a craft knife if you have a steel rule to cut against. It's soft, so is easy to poke it shape & wrap around figures.

Ciao Steve,
Yeah, I have tried using that stuff before, but it is a little too thin for me to work with. The muffler tape is more forgiving for me. I appreciate the tip, though. I just hope that I have the patience to do all four straps.

Re. using the PE straps, I've found that if you anneal them (put them in a hot flame for a few seconds) then they become MUCH easier to work with...
Rob, I really like what you've done with this set although, and this is no reflection on YOUR work, they're a little on the static side (again).
Hopefully now (with the announcement of the M4 Mortar-carrier) they'll start doing more U.S. figures - in particular a Heavy Weapons team.. ..

Ciao Jim,
Thanks for the compliment, and I guess you're right about them being rather lethargic in action. What I do like about the separate hands feature is that they marry to the weapons much better. Heavy weapons team, huh? That would be really nice.

I think they look great. I really like the variety of the colorization of the rifles. I also think your OD#3 looks spot on. One thing I would try to do is hit the snaps on the webbing with dots of black. Also, now this I think you can live with, (and I would) the scabbard for the bayonets should be OD. They were made out of an OD plastic when the Army switched to the shorter bayonets.
All in all an excellent job.

Ciao David,
Thanks for the (many now) compliments. You are right again. I have all these references, but apparently, I don't look at them. Duh!! I will hit the snaps with a pencil and do the bayonet scabbards in green. That will break up the color. I don't mind correcting them since I have to labor through the slings, anyway. Now I have to figure out the dio. Again, thanks for all the assistance and words of encouragement.
