Hi,

here my latest workbench project. Itīs a conversion from the IDF M-50 Turret and engine roof from the german small scale company model trans and the new trumpeter M4A3E8 Korean war (you need the late track ). I must built the engine roof new because the IDF have remove the old sherman engine and put a french power diesel in it. Today some of this tanks drive in south america with a 60mm high speed gun.

I have still better wait for the new dragon easy eight because the trumpeter kit have some faults an missing details. But i hope itīs ok for a small modelling snack.

Coments always welcome

Before you go any further, your tracks are on backwards. The chevron should point towards the front.

Interesting the way you placed blocks on the drive sprocket to add track tension. Gotta try that one. Looks good, reverse you track direction and drive on.

Coming along quite nicely. That's a heck of a casting. Any advanages of using it over DML's existing turret?
By the way-You're in good company, Shep Paine supported sagging track that way in his book, and oddly enough, shows an M51 on the front cover with one backward track.

Thanks for the comments. Tracks will still differently made. Was to show how. I use also in the next step some detail parts from the Dragon kit. Not gladly I do it but i must because some parts missing in the Trumpeter kit.

Looking good so far.
In addition to the suggestions already made, I'd like to add one more. Cut off the solid lifting loops on the hull, and replace them with copper wire.
Also, replacing the fender supports with thinner styrene sheet would probably enhance some more, if you want to go through cutting and shaping two dozen tiny triangles out of styrene sheet.

That is incorrect, DML has "not" done the M50 in 1/72

Forgot to mention that I see your engine deck needs a little work.
Here are my two.

Here is what they look like when they are painted.

Perhaps I can send you one?
Let me know.

Is that how it works?
The more I post, the better my ranking?
No wonder people that have joined after me are Lieutenants!
Thanks for letting me know.
As soon as I learn how to correctly post pic's here I will post more.

I don't know if this will work properly.
Since I do not know how to post pic's in the Forum.....
I will take a "round about" route to it.
hope this works.

http://network54.com/Forum/47210/message/1180862634/The+M50+%28Early%29++is+Done

As I said I hope this works.
Ken

PS when you "type" in the address if this shows up (?forum).
Delete the (?f), and replace it with (F).
Then it will work.

That link worked just fine when copy-pasted to the address field.
Nice-looking sherman you have there.

Here's a clickable link to your model:
http://www.network54.com/Forum/47210/message/1180862634/The+M50+(Early)++is+Done

You can make a clickable link by clicking on the "[url]" button below the typing field while writing your post. The piece of code appears in the typing field, then just copy your link inside the url tags (replacing the "http://put.url.here" text). If the address you want to link is too long, or you just want to make it cooler, you can make a link with a different name than the address. Click on the "[url=]" button to place the appropriate piece of code to your post. Put the address in the usual place, replacing the "http://put.url.here" text, and enter the name of your choice in place of the "linkname" text. This "linkname" will be the clickable link instead of the original address.
Of course, you can type all these codes manually if you wish.

Posting pics in the forums is also easy. Just click on the "img]" button and place the direct address of your pic of choice inside the code.
Looking at you sherman pics, I see you have them in photobucket, that's even more easier. While in photobucket, just click on the "img code" code line below the pic you want to post, it's copied to the clipboard and you can just hit ctrl-v to copy that to your post. That's it, the image code is already done for you. Photobucket also give you the direct URL link, it's the topmost link below each pic.

If hope this helps.

I started with the ESCI M4A1 turret.
The "counter weight" is made from "Auto Bondo" putty,
and the Mantlet (forgive my bad spelling) is made from Evergreen sheet styrene.
The copula and fittings are from the Dragon 105mm How turret.
The gun, and smoke throwers are scratch built from Evergreen odds and ends.
The antenna mounts are from a Roco vehicle.
My search light is made from the ESCI T62's, with the front hollowed out,
and the lamp is from a Roco search light.
Hope this helps.
Ken

By the way, I have seen a picture where the tracks are mounted in opposite directions (Israeli Shermans page 114). The photo is of an M50 operated by the Lebanese Christian Falangists.
