It appears that they are testing some kind of airborne version. Landing on water seems logical sinds the landing is (generally) softer than landing on the ground. You have to deal with the possibility of sinking ofcourse

That's a unique way to bring in armor to the battle field. They went to a lot of trouble to rig that thing up.

I would say that would be an ideal test of it's true amphibious characterstics...the real question would be to inquire about the mental health of the crew before and after.

One and only test conducted before WWII started. The test vehicle was in a not usable but recoverable state. It was testing for Airborne use...this at the same time that dropping paratroopers into thick snow without parachutes was considered to be a good idea.

As you might imagine, the "discovery" of the parachute greatly improved the airborne service...
