Looking good so far James!

I hope to get started on my first build for the campaign over this weekend, well not si=unday as I'll be at the MAFVA nationals at Duxford, if any ot the Brits in the campaign are able to make it I could be good to get together for a pint or few....

I was seriously considering doing the King Tiger currently displayed at the Patton Museum for this campaign. It has had the port side armor removed and replaced with plexiglas, giving a good view into the interior. I ordered the TWS Kingtiger interior and the DML Kingtiger.

:[]-- Alert. This is the first time I have gotten a TWS interior and it is awful. Scratches and gouges on the parts caused by scratches and gouges on the masters. Resin overflow making some parts almost useless. Air bubbles. Serious warpage. This interior set will require more work to correct than I am willing to invest. I might be skipping this campaign, unless I get another interior. I think I will stick with verlinden in the future. Alert Concluded

I am thinking this build would take me about 3 months with a good interior. I don't know if I have time to order a new interior and squeeze this one out.

Well I never did get the kit that I ordered on eBay. However it looks like I might get my money refunded. So I purchased another Tamiya M8 Armored Car through Squadron Mail Order. I have been dealing with them for years and have always been happy with the results. So hopefully it will arrive early next week as I am anxious to get started on it. Hopefully I will be able to post some in-progress photos soon.

My Tamiya M8 Armored Car arrived from Squadron Mail Order. I thought I would post a photo of it before I start working on it.

I hope to have some progress photos to share soon.

HARV

PS. I did get a full refund on my eBay deal.

So far I have finished building my Hotchkiss in German colors (with Wurfrahmen 40 Rocket launchers attached, Trumpeter style), and a German Renault UE is under painting with the same Wurfrahmen 40 rockets attached. (I guess it's always French, and always rockets...)
If I have time, I'll build another UE with a 3.8cmPaK (leftover from the DML 251 kit -with what else? The Wurfrahmen 40 rockets...)

Does anybody have any references on how these rockets were wired?

On a sidenote: the fit of the Trumpeter tank was terrible... Most of the time their models rock, but this one was a major headache. The Mirage Hobby UE on the other hand proved to be a nice, easy-to-build kit. The only issues were with the correct alignment of the rollers and the tiny, soft indi tracks. The size of the rockets are different, though. I think, Mirage Hobby undersized them a bit.

Blimey Andras, you work fast!!
Are they just built or are they painted too? if they are done show us the pics!
On the rocket question, there was two sizes of rockets, a 28cm and a 32cm, one was High Explosive the other was a napalm type, I cant remember off hand which is which though!

The same type of 32cm rockets are mis sized (now gentlemen... how would I make such a mistake? OK, I admit. I usually make stupid mistakes, but this time it wasn't me.)
The building is not really fast -they're just small kits, and no AM. Had I done the same amount of work on the DML 251 halftrack, you'd think I'm pathetic... The longest part was to sand the hull of the Hotckiss together.

Actually, I have had a lot of spare time recently; my jerk of a boss didnt think that having a hypothyroid condition was reason enough for me to have dizzy spells that he construed as me sleeping on the job, so I was put on administartive leave. He felt like a complete jack-as in front of his boss and reps from HR when I brought in medical documentation that refuted his claims, and I had to be reimbursed for all the time I missed. So basically, I got paid to build models for a couple of days!

With all that being said, I will now report that my T-34 is essentially built. I need to prime it out and spit and polish it, but I'm essentially done with the initial phase. Of course, now I face building the base, trees, ground cover, water, extra figures in the scene, etc, so I wont be done for quite a long while.

I like that DML T-34, that was a nice clean build, not a lot of difficult procedures. Of course, Im saying that after building the DML Marder II, so........

Hi Steve,
bosses can be such ejits at times, so good when they have to eat their words...
Great work on the T-34, post pics if you can, I'm sure plenty are waiting to see them.

Hopefully, i'll have pictures in the next couple of days. the Marder II?? Really was a challenge; a whole lot more pieces than the T-34 or even the King Tiger. I almost gave up out of frustration, but stepped away for a few weeks, and when I came back, it all sort of fell together.

Did not take pictures during the build. It is the Tamiya M4A3 with added turret cheek armour, sandshield strips and road wheels on the rear hull. Captured from the U.S., refurbished , shipped to the east and captured by the Russians just before wars end.
Hope you like it as this is the first multi-tone cam pattern I have sprayed in years

Futured, decaled and weathering started.

Ok; bear in mind that I have a less than adequte digital camera, so these pics are apt to be poor at best, but heres what Ive done so far:

I built the T-34 and primed it with a green Tamiya rattler while on administrative leave from work...

I took some florists wire of varying thicknesses (.99 a pack at HobbyLobby) , wrapped the trunks for my trees and main branches, and covered them with masking tape yesterday.

Then the other day I built the base for my dio out of foam packing and celluclay. The base is made out of scrap wood I got from a housing site down the street. I need to add a few more coats of shellac to them.
(*Note* the foam base the trees are (temporarily) stuck in is the same basis for my entire foundation as shown below)

The darker edge is where the lakes edge will be when all is said and done. If you need to dry celluclay and you dont feel like waiting around for it? I suggest putting your dio base in your car in the morning and leaving it there until 3 or 4 pm. In the 90+ degree heat of North carolina? My celluclay completey dried and didnt warp in less than 8 hours.

Heres the base with the T-34 on it for the sake of proportion and concept.

I have heki grass for the base, as well as the instructions for making ground cover. The figures for this (a mix of Wolf and Verlinden) came yesterday, but I havent picked them up yet.

So, what do you think so far? I'm hating the trees, they are really hard to do!!

I only asked as I have that kit awaiting its turn along with the CH update for it and had noticed that they both looked to be fairly complicated.
It just goes to show that leaving something alone for a while can make all the difference.

Nice job on the camo India11, I couldnt tell from looking that it was your first multi tone camo job in years. I'm looking forward to seeing the weathering and final touches going on.

Oh yeah, definately! IMNSHO, it is the hardest thing I've built so far, but it was well worth the effort, even if my results were less than stellar! If I were you? Take the time to detail the radio kit with wires, headset, etc. it makes a lot of difference if you add on all the little bells and whistles.

Thanks for the advice Steve, I've been looking around for different sites with wiring guides and such and have found one thats very helpful in that respect.

India11: cool job on the camouflage. It really looks ready to knock out some Russian Shermans

Steve, good job on the T-34 so far. It will look great when finished and included in your diorama. I think it will be a very effective scene with the depth and height differences in the ground work.
