Help needed on this one. Now I'm in the process of doing a 101st dio Market Garden dio and am having problems with musette bags. Now I've looked at a number of sources including Mark Bandos excellent 101st site and still can't work out how the musette bags were carried. Were they attached directly to webbing or carried on independent straps.? If anyones got pics or info I'd be extremely grateful.......

IIRC the M1936 Musette bag has a couple of snaps to attach it to the yoke of the webbing suspenders, however one of the men in photo with the Horsa in this thread wasn't having any of that..

The mussette bag has two straps at the top, and two D-rings at the bottom. Utilizing these the mussette bag can be carried in two different ways.

The most common way, the "backpack" configuration utilizes both the straps and the D-rings. On the M-1936 suspenders, there are two D-rings near the armpit. The straps on the bag go over the top of the shoulders and attach to these D-rings. To attach the bag at the bottom, the outermost front straps on the M-1936 suspenders clip onto the D-rings on the bottom of the bag.

The other way is to carry it like a handbag, utilizing a strap designed to connect the straps at the top of the bag.
