Now I can finally get one. I remember when I first came back into modelling my LHS had five of them in his shop that sat there for months. I remember looking at the detail pics on the box and saying he*% no. Now when you see them on ebay at the ridiculous prices I wish I had bought all of them.

Is it a normal kit, smart kit, or premium kit? Any ideas?

Is there any info that the DS tracks will be instead of the MagicTracks or as a complementer option? For a Tiger DS doesn't seems to be a good choice to achieve realistic sag.

I for one am very happy to hear this. I hope they follow suit with the Tiger I initial. I never got either in the begining, and getting one now without paying an arm and a leg seems to be impossible.
I'm just curious as to whether all of the bonuses of PE and metal barell and whatnot will be included with this one as well..?

Dear lord I had no idea that you couldn't get the original Dragon Tiger superkits anymore! I was amazed when I read this piece, and thought 'nah, you can just order them off luckymodel, no trouble', but sure enough you can't seem to find either kit anywhere. How the hell did that happen? These aren't exactly old kits, and they were always, i imagine, very popular. Why don't DML simply make more? Or were they just making an expensive loss-leader to impress everyone and gain publicity and never intended to do more than a limited run? If that's the case, then i fear for the re-release, since perhaps it is a cheapened form of kit. Dragon used to be superb value and superb kits. Since the price hikes, they are less value, but still excellent quality. I have a couple of their smart kits, though, and sort of fear that they are trying to cheapen their product and remove the wonderful extras that used to cram the box to bursting point.
I looked for a Tiger Late on ebay, and found that they do indeed go for absurd prices. I saw this one - the dude want to skim another $38 for freaking postage on top of the $90 buy-it-now! I bought and built the Tiger Initial when it came out, but now I wish i'd stockpiled a whole bunch of Initial and Lates so I could cash in now!
Cheers

Interesting. Thanks for posting this, Jim. I wondered what was up with DML6253 (Tiger I Late 3 in 1 kit). All of a sudden you couldnt get the kits, the word was it was discontinued. Well mystery solved
Having yet another new Tiger I Late out there should cause a fair amount of confusion, and to some resentment. I didnt think there was much wrong with the original Dragon Tiger I Late 3 in 1 kit ? Was there ?
I'm not sold on those DS tracks, except US vehicles (like Shermans), and I wonder why Dragon chose DS over their already excellent Magic Tracks. Maybe they will include both as an option ?
Now, a Dragon Sturmtiger comes to mind after seeing this.
One can only hope
Cheers !!

As I said in a related thread:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As much as I like their Tiger I kits (and quite a few others) I for one am not happy about Dragon's decision to do DS tracks. I for one like the separate track links and Dragon has been getting better with time and technology in producing separate links. For instance the Magic Tracks in the updated Panther kit are fantastic and now I don't have to drill/clean all 200 links like I did with the first one I built.
The DS tracks might react well with most glues and such but I think that you can get a much more realistic sag with the separate links. I know that some people prefer the 'rubber band' type of tracks and that's okay too but my buying decision is to not buy this kit or if I do than I will get some aftermarket tracks in separate links.
Or if they can put both types in their kits that would make me happy too. Even if I have to pay an extra buck or two I would go for kits with a choice of tracks to use.
Just my opinion.

Perfect reason to justify some nice aftermarket fruil track

I believe the biggest complaint about the original kit was that the tracks had solid guide horns. The DS tracks should solve this.

Yes the original kit had the solid guide horns and extra links for the turret with separate hollowed out horns. When I built the Initial Production Tiger I once again hollowed out the guide horns on all of the links. Lots of work that just adds that little something to the model. At the time the mould technology couldn't handle open guide horns for this type of track links.
Now they have "Slide Mould Technology" and are using it to great success on the Panther and Pnzr IV tracks. Can Dragon do this with Tiger tracks in the form of Magic Tracks? I think the phrase "Hell Yeah!" comes to mind. So now the complaint is that it's too difficult to build separate track links.
I like the individual links. You get a realistic sag and more control for various weathering effects as paint sometimes just won't stick to rubber bands. If you like the individual than you need to contact Dragon with your opinions (or they might read them here). They could even do Slide Mould Technology Tiger I Magic Tracks as a separate kit. I would buy it to replace the rubber bands.
I like their kits and have an ever growing stack in the model closet and the list of still to buy is long too.
I believe the biggest complaint was that it was sold out...
Maybe somebody underestimated the market for the first production run. Or the second run is for a different set of markings ala Hasegawa and the neverending rereleasing of kits with different markings.

Bingo!! I don't have any hard numbers myself, but I would venture a guess that the Dragon "super kits" were not big money makers, in the sense of all the extra stuff included with the kit.

I don't usually build German tanks but I guess every modeller should have a go at a Tiger at least once. So I've just pre ordered this at HLJ.
At least if I don't build it I can sell it on ebay and buy 4 Shermans

I guess this one is going to be around longer than the earlier Tiger-E late, so it won't be getting those bonus-prices anymore...

Did the same thing just now. This one may not compare to the other ones in the aftermarket goodies it brings but you still never know how long they'll be around. I mean, I only goes for about $32 US if you preorder so I much rather pay now than say to myself "man, I wish I could have bought that"
Done deal for me now,

DML have already given us a Tiger without a surfeit of goodies; the Cyber-Hobby "Wittman" release. I would expect this Late Tiger to have similar contents.

I sure hope so,

Given my build rate Herbert they'll have stopped making all model kits by the time I get to this in my stash and it'll be worth one meellion dollars
