hey there, are there any metal aftermarket barrels for the Tamiya 25 pounder kit out there? I've been searching google, but no luck...

BTW, if anyone is looking for instructions for the 25 pounder kit or Tamiya's Quad tractor kit, I seem to have an extra one in my kit.

Mike,

As far as I know, there is no aftermarket 25 pdr barrel available.

would the Model Point bishop barrel be a Mk.1 or a Mk.2? I found a pic of the barrel a couple of days ago, but I'll be damned if I can find it now... And I'm not having much luck finding info on which version of the 25 Pdr. the Bishop was armed with.

The result was a vehicle designated Ordnance QF 25-pdr on Carrier Valentine 25-pdr Mk 1 and universally known as Bishop. so I'd say the Bishop used a MK 1 25pdr.
Hope this helps

Without getting into the complicated history of the 25pdr too much

http://www.rickard.karoo.net/articles/weapons_25pdr1.html

the Bishop was armed with a 25pdr without muzzle brake. So presumably that's what the Model Point barrel is.

David-- very nice run down on the weapon. I still have two guns and the tractor from Tamiya to build. Inspiring verbiage might lead me to start them this weekend.
thanks

DJ - if you build the gun without the muzzle brake, don't forget to remove the moulded-on counterweight just in front of the breech.

I didn't mention the Bishop barrel as I'm not sure it's the right length. If it replaces the portion of the Bishop barrel that protrudes from the casemate, then I suspect it's too short. If it is supposed to go right to the breech block of the 25 pdr, then it's at least close to OK.

As for designations, I do believe the barel without the brake was for the 25 pdr Mk II as the Mk I used the bored out 18 pdr barels issued in 1938/39 and was frequently called the 18/25 pdr.
