Hi all,
I notice that Aeroscale has opened a forum for people who are either new to the hobby, or returning after a long absence. I think this could be something that would be useful here, especially when you bear in mind how much armour modelling has changed in the last 20 years.
I'm new to AFV modelling, and I've not actually built in plastics for 20 years, so I would certainly find it an useful forum. It would be a good idea to try to keep those new modellers who struggle, in this type of genre. It can only help the hobby methinks

Sounds good to me!! Got back into modelling after a very long break a few months ago. Think I was about 14 the last time I built anything prior to that.
Can be a bit intimidating seeing all these full scale dioramas perfectly presented (in the right colours!) so it would be good to have an area for us newbies to compare our latest attempts (and all the usual ups along the way!!)

Is it really necessary?
If it was only frequented by beginners, who would you ask for help, advice or would you get the support and feedback really needed when starting out again. If the more experienced modellers are going to "peep" in or help out ... isnīt it just as easy to keep all in the one place?
I started in the hobby almsot 6 years ago, and can honestly say ... from day 1, that all Ive ever recieved is help and support and have never felt the need to be intimidated by more experienced modellers. I still need to ask for help, am really glad to have this resource.
No matter how good you get or how much you learn, somebody will always know more or can do it better!

I agree with Frank, as I believe that all the forums are for everyone on a equal basis. If you are a beginner, just say you are a beginner, nothing to be a shamed of, we all were "beginners" once, many have been or will be "returners" several times, and eventually just settle into the fact that we have an incurable disease of "modelholicism" and then go about life building what we want, how we want, when we want!

Boy OH Boy---- ain't that the truth Frank.

I kind of like the idea of a Beginner's forum. Although the one on AeroScale has actually been there from the start and hasn't seen much use. So that kind of leaves it to the beginners on the site and those that would be willing to moderate and help them out.
But I have no problem adding a forum that will be utilized.
Thanks,
Jim

I was thinking maybe just somewhere where we could display our work where it's made obvious that we're beginners without it being pointed out that we have the wrong insignia for the division on the soldier compared to the vehicle or the muddy footprint is slightly too small to have been made by the geezer who just made it, you know the sort of things!!! Would certainly welcome criticism of my models but at a level thats constructive relative to where my skill levels are at the moment (too many long words, my head hurts!!).
As for the advice given on the site, I agree that we need to be in the main section with the more experienced modellers in order to learn and, hopefully(!!) improve. Only been on here a week and have just used tips from the site to produce a set of tracks for my Panzer III that look the muts nuts compared to what I was doing before!

Captain Canary, have you tried posting your work in Constructive Feedback?
You maybe surprised that MOST people that post comments take into consideration as to the skill level of the poster, especially if the poster notes he is a beginner or a returner.
You also need to remember that not everybody here has English as a first language, so sometimes the translation maybe off a little.
Just watch out a -- real senile, grumpy old geezer hosts it.

Erm, no. Compared to what I've seen displayed I'm a bit embarrased by my feeble attempts so far!!

Do be shy or intimidated.
That goes for any newcomers or returnees.

Alright, guys, reading these posts, you've talked me into it! Assuming, of course, I can find the time around yardwork to get some pics. For the first time... sorta looking forwards to fall/winter!
