Here are some new pictures of the Sherman Firefly Vc I am working on. I attempted to use the pre-shading technique for this one. and then I Airbrushed it with my custom mixed color that started off life as Model master Field Drab, in my attempt to get a british Kaki color. Please let me know what yall armor fellows think of the color.
Just remember for this tank I chose the color to show one that had been re-painted by the brits, because I didn't want to do another straight OD green right away.
one picture of the pre-shading.
2 pictures of the painted tank
There are a couple of more pictures on my website in the on the workbench section. at

Looks great so far. It might be the lighting in the pics but it looks like you may have overdone the base coat a little and nullified the pre-shade step you did. The only reason I say this is because I did the same thing on an aircraft I did. Either way, the base coat looks good.

Del:
Good to see you progressing on the Firefly.
I would agree with Tin Can. I have attempted to preshade in the past, and have wound up applying my top coat a bit to heavily and basically covered up the preshade. Your second pic appears to have done that??? If not I apologize for my comment.
Octopus aka Steve Sushi mentioned in one of his posts on his M26 Pershing, that he applies the base dark coat, and then follows with the OD in a cloud/mist pattern, leaving the dark in the crevises and corners to show through. I'm going to give this a try on my next tank.
Del, you work is always very very good. This Firefly is going to be another great model from you. Thanks for the pics and the opportunity to comment.
ps: I thought you might put "the bird" in one your pics here

Ive looked through the pics and cant see any pre-shading left. No harm trying though. Another trick might be post shading. Actaully adding the dark to the crevices and weld lines afterwards. In missing links there is a guy who has an articles on this. Its called "Painting Panzers" The Post-Shading Way. An Alternative Approach to Finishing AFV Models. Its by James Blackwell.

Is it the lighting or is it a bit too yellowish. Other than that, it would look scary to a Tiger crw

thanks all for the comments.
And everyone is pretty much right I applyed the base coat heavy enough that I mostly covered up the pre-shadeing.. all well I really don't think I care to much for this anyways and all is not lost I'll just apply everything the way I want it in the weathering and detailing stage, which is something i've had a bit of sucess with in the past. but I do like to try new things.. :-)
WeWillHold, the only way that bird is getting on this model is skewered with the barrel... which by the way is long enough ( I checked) #:-)
Bender : It is a Sherman Vc Firefly by Dragon/DML kit #6121 (39' - 45' Series) If you look for one be careful as they made two versions of this kit.. #6121 is the later kit that corrected many problems with the orignal release of the kit. and for the spare parts junkies there are about 100 extra parts in the box.
and the pictures were taken in a hurry, I only had a hour or so before work to take them and post them on my website and get the post on here so they seem to have come out a little yellowish.. I think the color is more greenish brownish than is shown in the pictures.
Here is a picture that shows more of what the color actually looks like, but isn't perfect as the batteries in my camera are getting low, and i've taken the picture inside.
and once again thanks for the comments all..one of my fav things on here is showing my work and getting feedback on it.

This is my last attept to show the exact color of the model so far. This is a paint sample chip of the overall base color I used.. I got this sample chip after charging the batteries of my digital camra and taking a very High quality photo outside in natural light. this chip is taken off the side of the turrent where the light is neutral (i.e. not causing any glare) and it is the closest i've come to showing the exact color.
