I am trying to do a diorama from Vietnam and had trouble finding NVA soldiers so I decided to modify some russian figures. Please tell me what you think of it so for. I have only done a basic paint job on it now and plan on detailing with oils later on.
I had to build pant legs for him as the original model had tucked in boots. I then removed his coat bottom making it appear that the shirt was tucked in. I also had to fasion all the equipment useing Milliput, including the helmet, which I used the original for a base to go off of. I added a chest rig, canteen, and stick grenades in a pouch.
One question I have is what do you all think I should do equipment wise on the RPG man? Thanks.

Also, what is a good item to use to dull the paint out. I used flat enamels but it is just way too shiny for me. Thanks.

Use any available dull coat spray can you could find. Testors, Gunze, Tamiya, your choice.
Next time, if you still feel that your paint would come out glossy, I suggest mixing a "flat" clear paint to your colors. This is better because you do not need to buy a dull coat in can (and less expensive too).

Nice work Stephen, I'd almost forgotten how bad those Lo Models figures were...
The RPG man should have a pack of some sort to carry reloads, Soviet Army soldiers had a special 3-round backpack (Dragon's Israeli para set had one), but I'm not sure whether NVA troops with the Chinese version would have had the same one, or something more home made.

Thanks, the kit was terrible. I have all the figures done and ready to go except the RPG guy. I have him complete but without any equipment. I have seen illustrations with a four round pack on NVA before but all photos I find show them with no pack whatsoever. The diorama I am doing portrays a certain battle in Laos so I am not sure if they would have had the packs on in this case or not.

OK, it looks glossy in the photo but it is not that bad. I think I need to repaint it, what do you all think?
