Dan Taylor Modelworks is a company that has been going since 2008 and catering to the fans of 1/76th scale. This company has a huge selection of British and Commonwealth vehicles and forces, and they also have an excellent range of Navel subjects.
Dan Taylor Modelworks has been trading since 2008. We have been going a long while longer though, creating masters for companies like Milicast Models and Accurate Armour. We count ourselves as 1/76 scale producers of WWII subject matter, though many of our sets, like the figures and transfers (decals), are perfectly suitable for 1/72 scale. We focus strongly on D-Day and the Normandy Campaign, though over the next couple of years we are looking to expand our remit to cover the campaign in France, 1940 and the Western Desert. Other subject matter will follow.
It is the unusual and esoteric that attracts us most - things that the mainstream would probably ignore. Our first model was Pegasus bridge, a 1/76 recreation in resin and etched brass of the first structure captured on D-Day. We followed this up with the components of the Mulberry Harbour - the floating dock that was transported across the channel to help supply the invasion troops.
You may notice a certain British bias to the models we produce for which we are unapologetic. There are, however, some German subjects creeping into the range, and we are very keen to create a good representation of the various Commonwealth troops that served alongside the British Army. The basis for some US Assault Infantry are even on the cards!
At the core of our work is sound research. Understanding the history of the subject and the engineering that went into the original is a vital starting point. We have amassed a large collection of plans, photographs and other documents to make sure that our models are as accurate as it is possible to be. This does not mean we are precious about what we have done in the past so we are always keen to improve and develop existing kits where new, authenticated information comes to light. We are also pro-active in responding to requests from customers for new ideas where they can be made to fit with the existing range.
Our aims are to inspire and to inform. We like to create models that authentically reflect the historic times in which they are based and that encourage model makers to try something new.
