Italeri has been taking another look at the 1/35th scale Motor Torpedo Boats and released a new offering that should appeal especially to our American members.
Yes I know this is a boat but it is 1/35th scale and that lends itself to our side of the hobby. The boat in this case is the PT-109 Motor Torpedo Boat as commanded by the late John F. Kennedy. There is no information on this on the Italeri website, but this story was supplied by Model Rectifier Corporation who also supplied the following test;

Available from Model Rectifier Corporation is Italeri’s newly tooled release, the legendary PT-109 Motor Torpedo Boat (#555613) commanded by John F. Kennedy in 1943. Working from the original ELCO drawings, Italeri created about 300 pieces, plus photo-etched parts to recreate the 80’ U.S. Navy Patrol boat in 1/35 scale. The one-piece hull is over 27” long.

This remarkable reproduction is crammed with superb detailing. For instance, the four torpedo tubes, Oerlikon 20mm cannon, four .50 caliber machine guns and two depth charges are spot on. Even the transom mounted smoke generator has been perfectly replicated. You can tell the history has been well researched, as the kit even includes the 37mm anti-tank gun that the crew lashed to the bridge the day before its last mission.

The model includes a Photo Reference Manual filled with some little known historical facts, original photographs and drawings.

I say more the merrier....Italeri please do us a favor and make a Brit LCA landing craft as the old Fonderi kit is almost impossible to get. I second the previous request for a Vosper boat crew too!

I was going to start a thread regarding this exact thing. Personally I find the new titles irritating and pointless. I find myself missing loads of the news items because the text doesn't grab my attention. What publisher has said to do this? It seems like complete nonsense, not mention the product or manufacturer!?? For a while Armorama had me on the new product info, but increasingly i'm going back to PMMS. Sorry to rant, but as a long time member of the site I thought i'd just voice my opinion.[/quote] I concur! Have made the same kind of remark on the phrasing of the title in other news stories. Sometimes they are funny and I see by going for the tabloid headline style they are trying to grab attention, but why not try the catchy title plus the relevant information? Just my two Euro cents, Armorama is an awesome site, but nobody's perfect and maybe member feeddback will help it getting even better. Cheers, Christophe

Ditto Vosper crew, by anybody in plastic Ditto LCA please Italeri How about some LCT's & LCI's (even in braille-scale)? FM LCA is almost impossible to build as well.... only seen 2 or 3 finished on the web... (mine is err on the hardstanding awaiting repair...)

I wonder if Italeri is aware that if they combine the soon to be released PT-109 with the weapons suite and the radar from their previous PT-596, they could create an up-gunned, mid-war boat such as PT-328? That would also give them more value from the existing molds. They could also release those sprues as a separate accessory set. Then a modeler could modify the 109 himself. Would also like Italeri to consider adding a Higgins 78' PT Boat to their line of 1/35 scale Torpedo Boats. I too was surprised, and disappointed, by their failure to release a set of crew figures for the Vosper. There are resin crew available, but they are considerably more expensive. C'mon Italeri, there is still time. Al

The 109 looks good and their 1/35 boats are a nice addition to the scale kits.I have done the Elco 80 and it was a good kit,but it took a while to get the crew and apparently the last one in Canada.Not the best quality or fit,but a crew at a decent price.I prefer doing dio's and until they have a crew I won't spend the money on the 109. Crew or not, this is the boat I WANT!!!! Dio---barage buster tied along the lagoon just waiting..... Hey, now I'll have a use for all those extra parts and goodies I've been squirling away. Now all I'll need is a Japonese barage.

This Pt is a nice addition to the range and a must have kit. Just to recap, we also need a Vosper crew Italerie

I agree, again, with the need for a Vosper crew as well as the LCA. I think Italeri could do well wih the 78' Higgins boat as wel. We have one in New Orleans, PT-305 , a boat that saw combat in the Med. Lastly, Italeri seems very receptive to suggestions, I'd love to see the SO radar and the PT boat armament available seperately to customize the each boat as they'd be seen . I'm thinking of the Zebra boats and or the boat with 40mm fore and aft.

'We have been instructed by the publisher to use titles that catch your attention and not to mention the manufacturer or product in the title'. So how is having the topic title with an Italeri logo and box art above it any different? My main wish is that AT LEAST the scale of the item should be in the topic title, I don't want to waste my time opening (sometimes very slowly) a link to something in 1/48 or 1/72 scale....I have zero interest in those... As for the kit itself, I've built the original Elco and have the Vosper in my stash......another Elco might be pushing it a bit though I must admit these big boats are pretty impressive. Also, I agree with Al, a Higgins would be great as would a Fairmile or even a russian PT boat
