In this the second of three news stories covering Italeri new releases we take a look at the Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger I Ausf.E mid production in 1/35th scale.
Italeri has had a fiddle with their Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger I Ausf.E mid production model and re-released it with some added touches such as a minimal photo etched fret for the engine deck grills, fenders, and exhaust guards. The model has also been updated with link and length tracks not forgetting the inclusion of moulded on zimmerit and an engine are also nice additions which have been carried over from the earlier release.

The Tiger I tank, which has been produced in the second half of 1943, was based on the hull of the first operational version used in North Africa and Russia. At the beginning this tank had wheels with rubber rim, which will be replaced in the following productions starting from February 1944, but it was equipped with the new turret with increased protection and better cupola for the commander. Besides some of these vehicles maintained the characteristic system of dust filters Feifel and the smoke grenade launchers. On the tanks produced since August 1943 was also applied a magnetic mine paste that will become standard on all tanks of the German Army.

Will they ever stop to produce more and more Tigers? Who on earth should buy & build all those Tigers?

It will be interesting to see how the zimmerit compares to Dragon's.

In fairness Ingo this is a cleaned up model of an old kit with some added bling. I like the kit as while it will never challenge DML in the Tiger 1 market it provides zimmerit, a simplified engine, and the basics of photo etched parts, so depending on how you feel about accuracy it is still a fair looking model with options.

The review says; taleri has had a fiddle with their Pz.Kpfw.VI Tiger I Ausf.E mid production model and re-released it Can anyone point me to a previous Italeri "mid production" Tiger? I saw one announced but I never saw it released. David

Well, the Zimm and hull sprues look to come from their "late" kit (with the steel wheels - can't remember the number offhand), alomng with the PE. The others must come from whatever "early" kit Italeri offered - I know there was one but again can't name it. The experts will have to see if this mix&match produces a valid "mid", but I'm assuming it still has the symetrical turret that pushes the gun off-centre... Any idea about likely price? Low cost can justify a lot of surgery! Tom
