In this the third and final of three news stories covering Italeri new releases we take a look at the Sd. Kfz. 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen this time in 1/72nd scale.
This Sd. Kfz. 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen from Italeri is I believe a new model rather than an upgraded kit and looking at what has been included in this braille scale offering I am impressed. Firstly the inclusion of link and length tracks and individual wheels are a good sign for this model which I am sure the braille scale fans will appreciate, it is also good to see the inclusion of a couple of figures.

The Sd.Kfz.251 half-track was an armoured fighting vehicle and was used by the Wehrmacht on all fronts, during the Second World War. Powered by a Maybach 6-cylinder petrol engine was able to achieve, even in off-road terrain, the speed of 55 km / h. Produced in huge numbers, it was mainly used to transport the “Panzer grenadiers” but, during the war, several versions has been developed to meet various operational needs. The half-track Sd.Kfz. 251/16 Flammpanzerwagen was developed as real flame tank to support infantry attacks against fortification or enemy positions. It was equipped with two flamethrowers on the sides of the vehicle. Furthermore, inside the vehicle, two tanks of flammable liquid, that allowed weapons to operate for about 160 seconds, has been installed.

This is great to see. I remember ESCI had a Flammpanzerwagen in their 1/72-scale line up years ago ... wonder if this is the old molds cleaned up with link-and-length track?

Donning the Sherlock Holmes deerstalker, I would suggest that you are correct. 1. There's no mention of it being "new moulds" which surely there would be if it were. 2. The sprue shots show that the two sprues for the body parts have squared corners, while the sprue for the tracks has rounded corners, suggesting it was mastered in a different time and place.

Yes its ESCI, I built one many years ago and I have one more in the stash. You can tell it by the two figures.

Regarding those figures, they appear to be scaled down from Tamiya 1/35 originals.

I took out the old Esci kit and took two pictures of the sprues.
