Airfix unfolded its plans for 2013 today, with some interesting re-releases as well as newly tooled items, in particular adding to their 1/48 British Army range.
Newly tooled items:

  • WWII Japanese Infantry 1:32 (A02710)

Thanks Matthew for putting this up as it is very encouraging to see Airfix making a comeback and with something for almost everyone. Especially of interest to me is their new Braille Scale offerings. I am quite certain that Bomber Re-supply Set 1:72 (A05330) will be greeted with great enthusiasm by not only Braille Scalers here on Armorama but diorama types both here and on Aeroscale. The vehicles in this set might be the perfect candidates for various potential conversions and, we get some Allied vehicles for a change!! Not to mention that the projected prices seem quite reasonable. One thing that is puzzling is the Willy's Jeep and Trailer being noted as being 1:76 scale. Wasn't this originally the Heller 1/72 scale kit #49997 bought and originally released by Airfix in 2004? If Airfix reads this and is listening, how about rereleasing the former Heller 1/72 scale GMC Truck that they released under their name as kit #A01323! It's quite a nice kit and would be welcomed by many. Cheers, Jan

That Bomber Re-supply Set looks very cool. The trucks look particularly interesting and with an appropriate plane model would be a great dio. Regards, AJ

An interesting mixture. Not sure (apart from the nostalgia factor) about the Humber and the 250 whether they're worth re-re-re-releasing... The Re-supply set is excellent (although they should have considered 1/48th as first choice). I like the idea of the Coyote etc. although it's a bit of a gamble in quarter-scale.. All-in-all apart from the repops, some pretty imaginative choices.

Go Airfix, great to see so much new stuff coming through. Strictly 1:35 myself (it's the eyes you see) but I really hope their 1:48 takes off That quad & rider should go down a storm. A gift from the Easter bunny maybe?

Surely, if these goodies (quad/coyote) are done in 1:48 scale somebody can do them in 1:35 scale.?????????

The bomber re-supply set looks great, at least we don't have to buy the Stirling anymore to get the tractor and bomb trailers Hopefully Airfix will branch out into 1/35, would really like to see the quad and the other modern kits in this scale.

Hmmmm, a reasonable point but i'd suggest that the Coyotes would require a LOT of both tooling and research (preferrbly with the manufacturer's cooperation) and it'd be a lot more work in 35th than 48th. As a sidebar, the Coyote (stripped-down) is a pretty mean street vehicle. I've seen them leaving boy-racers standing at the traffic lights in Plymouth (where they're built and tested in the ciy center) on more than one occasion...
