News in from Dan Taylor Modelworks is some home air defense figures and equipment.
Dan Taylor Modeworks has three new great looking releases in 1/76 representing home air defense with female crew members. The three new sets included a height and range finder, prediction and spotting device, and crew to run it. All three together would make for a very interesting diorama subject.
Set M-76926 - UB-10 18-foot Height and Range Finder.
The Barr & Stroud UB-10 was the standard rangefinder employed on static anti-aircraft sites during WWII. They served both 3.7” and 4.5” batteries throughout the war. They were often ‘manned’ by ATS crews - one of the few combat roles open to women. Glasgow based Barr and Stroud were the pre-eminent British optics manufacturer in the first half of the 20th Century. This kit comprises ten resin parts and is designed to be used in conjunction with our ‘ATS Ack-Ack Crew, set 1’, see below.
Set M-76927 – Ack Ack Prediction & Spotting
In order to accurately aim anti-aircraft guns at high flying targets, crews had to use increasingly complex sighting and prediction devices. As German bombers began to operate at over 30,000 feet, it might take a shell up to 30 seconds to reach the correct altitude and so equipment needed to be able to place barrages accurately where the aircraft were going to be - and then to modify accuracy based on proper analysis. This kit comprises three such devices - a spotting rangefinder; a Sperry Predictor; and a cine theodolite all recreated as resin kits.
Set No F-76230 – ATS Ack-Ack Crew, set 1
Six unpainted resin figures, three seated, three standing. They wear the ATS version of battledress (identifiable by having a wider fitting in the trouser legs and without the thigh pocket. Their gas masks are worn at the 'Ready' position. This set is designed to be used in conjunction with the Ack-Ack predictors and rangefinders shown above, though they could easily be adapted for other task
Armorama would like to thank Dan Taylor for the update.
