For American armor fans Commander Models has announced another great looking prototype heavy tank, the T29.
Commander Models has announced the availability of another heavy tank prototype, the T29. The U.S. T29 heavy tank project started in 1944 as a response to German heavy tanks. While never deployed into a war zone and eventually cancelled, the T29 did provide a test bed for new tank engine development.

The new resin kit with photo-etched details from Commander Models is the monthly special.

Armorama would like to thank Commander Models for the update.

Wow, well alright! Awesome news! I need to make some room for that and the 1/16 they have too. I have a special place in my heart for those American heavyweights AND the whole line of MBT-70 tanks. Jeff

Well this should get plenty of interest and orders if the recent Black Label threads are anything to go by .... great stuff!

Anyone have any ideas about what to do for the extended end connectors? It'll look kind of spindly without them: LINK BTW, the Commander Models website is wrong. Here it says to use Bronco AB3544 tracks, but those are T49s for the Sherman VVSS. Here it says to use Bronco AB3566, which are T84E1 rubber chevron tracks. I've only ever seen the T80E1 (Bronco AB3565) on the heavy tanks. Another thing to note is that the Bronco sets only make 188 links but the T29 and similar heavies used 204 links, so you would need two sets per tank. It would be nice to see an actual built-up kit rather than just the master and the parts. KL

I see the kit contains the end connectors in this pic: LINK I also surely want to see the kit fully assembled!

Ah! That photo isn't in the group provided with this post. I guess they must be glued onto each of the existing end connectors because the Bronco sets don't have separate ones that could be replaced. LINK KL

So... as far as I'm concerned, the kit seems to have been released, right? Any reviews or anything? At least a picture of the assembled model will help me make a decision of purchasing it.

Kurt, Any idea why the gussets on each extended end connector would have a hole and slot cut through the most effective part of the stiffener? Doesn't make any sense on first glance. Paul

It's only a guess but it might be intended to cause the EEC to bend rather than wrenching off the entire connector or pulling the tracks off the suspension. You would think that it would've been better to omit the gusset altogether, but the problem may have not been discovered until the parts were made and the tracks used in testing. Early photos of the tanks may provide a clue. KL
