Dragon USA has announced the impending release of a Panzer III flamethrower tank in its Smart Kits line.
From Dragon USA's website:

"This particular type of flamethrower tank was converted from Panzer III Ausf.M chassis, with Wegmann carrying out installation of the flame-throwing apparatus. The idea for such a tank designed for close-quarters combat (such as took place at Stalingrad) initially arose in November 1942, but the production of 100 vehicles didn’t occur until February-April 1943. The original 50mm gun was replaced with a flamethrower that had a range of 60m. Extra 30mm plates were also added to the hull front to add protection as well. These Pz.Kpfw.III (Fl) tanks were too late to participate in the Battle of Stalingrad, but some 41 were involved in the titanic Battle of Kursk in July 1943."

1/35 Pz.Kpfw.III (Fl) Ausf.M w/Schurzen - Smart Kit

Estimated arrival is November 2014.

Looks like Dragon has pulled out that CyberHobby III-M Flamm white-box kit (which is mostly pretty nice, IMO) and added on the hull schurzen parts from the Dragon III-N w/ schurzen kit. About 100 "new" III-M hulls were converted by Wegmann - Kassel into these flamm-III in end of 1942, early '43. Some were sent out wearing hull schurzen, as in this kit (and in a very few pictures), some came with hull AND turret schurzen, some came with the turret schurzen only, and most came with no schurzen (nor fittings) at all. It is of course possible that one or another individual was "retro-fitted" with schurzen out in the field. There are relatively few pics of this rare beast, and of these, only a small number show any schuren or racks for same. Strangely, there ARE more than a couple of "artist's colored plate renditions" claiming these goods in place. That's art, but maybe not good history.. The III-M Flamm was produced before zimmerit, so none of these should wear any "factory zimm" - again there MIGHT have been the very rare field conversion or application... And probably none of these ever got returned to Nibelungenwerke for any refurb, so probably no refurb "factory" zimm, either. I've not seen any compelling pic showing zimm on a III-flamm, but... I think that this one is sort of interesting, certainly an interesting specialized subject for III fans, albeit there does not seem to be any of the turret-interior parts that would provide the "flamm", and it comes with DS tracks (good for those who like that, I'll grant, but way BLAH, to me! ) rather than MT, and maybe sort of strangely (to me, any way), it comes with the hull schurzen only. This, sad to say, smacks of the seemingly increasing propensity of the D to milk kits and deal out the changes (and parts for same) in small increments. It would be more compelling to me were it to have all the schurzen and the builder get to choose amongst the possible variants of the type - specially as this one comes at that ever higher new MSRP. While this is a re-boxing of things from other kits into a "new" model, I'm glad to see the variety available.

They keep coming out with PzIII's faster than I can build them! OH, well, I'll add this to the stash as well!

Yeah... They sure do keep the III's coming! I'll probably end up buying this one - to build as a flamm. And then I'll build my CH white-box III FL as an M - seeing as it comes with the long barrel gun and the breach and stuff as parts for your spares locker! That kit and this new one are, I think, the same, save for the added schurzen. (Yeah, the same DS tacks, too. ) Bob

There was only one Panzer III with Zimmerit that was a Panzer III ausf N,the Panzer III was out of production when Zimmerit was introduced. I received a message from Dragon on my Facebook page when I asked them about the DS tracks and why they keep on including them in their kits. Thank you for your support for all these years. We continue to strive and cater to our customers as well as keeping the integrity of our company. We will keep your comments in mind when producing new quality products. Yer what ever

As stock fob-off patronising answers go, that would take some beating.
