Dragon Models has released news of a new Flak Truck coming from them in the form of a German 3t 4x2 Truck w/2cm FlaK 38.
Dragon is releasing a useful new 1/35 scale kit of a famous German truck of the WWII era. By 1944, more than 130,000 of these 3t 4x2 truck platforms had been manufactured in Germany. The truck type was widely used by the Wehrmacht and other units throughout the war, and the tracked Maultier version was even produced to help deal with the harsh road conditions prevalent on the Eastern Front. They were utilized in various ways, one of which was to mount light anti-aircraft cannons that could be used against either aerial or ground targets.

Dragon has done a remarkable job in developing this 1/35 scale kit of the 3t 4x2 truck. It’s made even more attractive by the fact that it’s a 2-in-1 kit, with modellers having the option of assembling a regular cargo truck, or one mounting a 2cm FlaK 38 cannon in the rear cargo bed. All the parts for this antiaircraft cannon are included in the box, and the weapon can be adjusted to depict different firing positions. Further options come from the fact that the cab doors, engine hoods and tailgate can be assembled open. There is even a fully detailed engine as well. This was a popular truck in German service, and this kit will be just as much in demand thanks to its versatility and accuracy.

That cinches it. Realism is something we all strive for, right?

I have quite the stash of Blitz's (Maultiers) for many wartime mods to include a couple of kits of the 2cm Flak 38 hanging around. Throw in the resin aftermarket of the Flak 'sled' I also have and toss in for dessert, some aftermarket PE, and bang...instant Dragon kit at a 1/3 of the cost. I may not get the engine detail, but the aftermarket will provide that as well if I so choose to go that route. Not that this will be a bad release, it just has no market value for me IMHO.

As mentioned, many many years ago, I converted an Italeri Opel and Tamiya Flak to build this vehicle. The model is long gone, but this kit does appeal to me in that I like the look. IMO, I like the release, and will more then likely buy it. While Dragon does make model kits for modelers, they are a business, and business likes to make money, usually to satisfy the share holders. So what Dragon is doing is just maximizing their investments in the molds. Smaller model companies will tend to look at what the consumer wants as oppose to the big companies that just want to maximize profit. Whether we like it or not, it is an unfortunate reality.

I fear that we won't ever see any exciting news from this company again.....

You never know. There just might be Spiderman-themed Easy Eight in the works to capitalize on Dragon's licensing deal with Marvel.

So essentially $100 for a re-issue kit that appears to have the obligatory deletion of the PE goodies, options for late or early sides but only late wheels and leaf springs. Pretty lame. I just spent $50 on a Mirror Models Breda Morris truck and another $40 on a Mirror CWT lol...

$90+ USD? Really?? That makes it about $120+ CDN!! For basically two re-issued kits combined! What's Dragon thinking? But then, I was looking at Meng's A7V and it's $90 CDN locally. Guess I'll build my Tauro kit!

Why? Meng has full interior included [except for the engine compartment hwich can't be seen] in their kit of the tank.

Why? Meng has full interior included [except for the engine compartment hwich can't be seen] in their kit of the tank.[/quote] Like I said, $90+ CDN is just a little steep! Even if it has full interior. What if I don't want full interior? I might pay $60 for no interior. We can't all be rich, you know!
