I was a little surprised to see Meng Models announce a Chieftain Mk 10 in the works, especially so when Takom is already shipping their offerings. Meng Models however know their own minds and the updates they have released to date look promising.
The following is the information as supplied by Meng Model
The Chieftain turret has many interesting features. The most eye-catching one is the long barrel of the 120mm L11A5 L/55 tank gun. MENG uses vinyl material to replicate the mantlet tarp so that the main gun can be elevated and lowered.
Protection of the Chieftain Mk.10 was increased with Stillbrew composite armor added to the turret front and both sides of driver’s hatch. Just like the fenders and side skirts, the breakdown of these armor parts follows the real vehicle.
MENG has precisely reproduced the A.F.V.No 15 commander’s cupola on the Chieftain turret. There is an independent wiper for each periscope of this cupola. MENG perfectly represents this device on the model by cleverly breaking down the parts.
The fire control system of the Chieftain tank also has some interesting features. Its searchlight can emit invisible infrared light as well as visible light. Modellers have three options on this MENG model: searchlight closed, searchlight emitting infrared light or visible light.
