Dragon Models continues to make the most of their M48 Moulds with the announcement of a 1/35th scale IDF Magach 2 (2 in 1) in the offing. There is no release date as yet, but I suspect it is not too far away.
Building on the success of its recent line-up of 1/35 scale kits of the famous M48 Patton medium tank, Dragon has turned its attention to special Israeli versions of the tank. Dragon is thus proud to announce the release of its very first Magach. Notably, this is a 2-in-1 kit, as modellers can elect to build either a Magach 1 or a Magach 2 variant as used by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). A whole range of Magachs based on both the M48 and M60 was introduced right through to the Magach 7, with continual improvements made as the result of painful lessons learnt in combat

This 1/35 scale kit inherits many of the excellent features of Dragon’s preceding M48A1 model, but it has been suitably modified to represent Magach 1 and 2 tanks serving in the IDF. As a 2-in-1 kit, it offers modellers great flexibility, and all necessary parts to build either variant are included in the box. Compared to the M48A1, there are brand new fenders, engine deck and muzzle brake. There’s a generous selection of photo-etched parts for delicate elements such as tool brackets, plus the tank uses tracks made from DS for added convenience. This is a splendid and highly detailed kit of the Magach 1 and 2, as Dragon delves into the fascinating world of Israeli armoured vehicles.

Bottom line. Magach 1 is a M48A1 while the M48A2 is the IDF Magach 2. Box art also depicts the Magach 2/ M48A2.

A very important question,I guess we will have to wait for the reviews.

You must be thinking about the Tamiya style of M48 hull... In Dragon kit the return rollers are attached to the upper hull part and fenders are separate. And yes, this kit comes with two complete upper hulls and with two complete engine decks. That actually is not true. M48A2/Magach 2 used similar, but still significantly different and not interchangeable with M48A3 engine decks and rear doors. The kit comes with correct newly tooled parts for M48A2.

Yes, but don't pay too much attention to that illustration. It was based on earlier, not final CAD drawing and shows the M48A3 Mod.B/M48A5 style headlight guards. The kit comes with proper M48A2 style guards.

Well, whateverthewho. I'm in for 1 or 3 or 7. Long over due and I will enjoy the hell out of this kit.

Correct me if I'm wrong (a real possibility) but this kit WILL build a '67 version, right? Michael

Yes, it's an M48A2C as delivered by West Germany to the Israelis shortly before the 1967 war.

That's what I thought. Thanks! Michael

So the 'net is strangely quiet about this kit now that it's out there. Anyone have one? What do you think? Michael
