Dragon continues releasing kits of the IDF, next in line is a M3 half track from the Six-Day War.
Based on Dragon's previous M3 half track, this IDF counterpart has many new tooled parts and photo-etched parts to depict its specific characteristics. Included are bonus backpacks hung on the hull side.
The decisive Six-Day War fought between Israel and its neighbours will achieve its 50th anniversary next year. Between now and then, Dragon is releasing a series of 1/35 scale kits highlighting equipment that was critical to that famous Middle East conflict. Here comes another Israeli vehicle. It’s an M3 half track, a type used widely by the Israel Defence Forces (IDF) at that time. American production of the M3 ran into the thousands, and after WWII many nations sold off their stocks to countries like Israel. The M3 in IDF service was an important vehicle for mechanized infantry, being a forerunner to proper armoured personnel carriers like the M113 that Israel later fielded in large numbers.
This 1/35 scale kit inherits the features of Dragon’s model of a WWII American M3 half track. However, it has been suitably modified to represent an Israeli M3 in the period of the Six-Day War. For example, there is a new machine gun mount above the front windscreen armour. A typical characteristic of Israeli half tracks was the mass of backpacks and kit stowed on and dangling off the sides of vehicles. This flurry of equipment is captured with a range of kit accessories made from DS.
