The latest kit from Sol Model provides detailing parts to build the armored engineer support vehicle.
The M728 CEV (Combat Engineer Vehicle) was based on a modified Patton tank chassis, with some based on the M60A2 variant that were withdrawn from service. It was equipped with a hydraulically operated bulldozer blade, a winch and retractable A-frame crane mounted on the turret for lifting, carrying and winching operations. A total of 312 M728 CEVs were produced over a seven year production period that started in 1965. It saw action in Vietnam and was even deployed during the Gulf War, eventually being withdrawn from US Army service by the year 2000.

Sol Model's kit MM204 is a conversion set that builds the M728 CEV using the Academy kit as base. Cast in resin, the kit includes other detailing parts such as wire, photo-etch to complete its offering.

I wonder if anyone will buy another resin conversion when there is a full plastic kit is on the horizon?

The molding on this may be better than the plastic, some shape or another may "look" better than the plastic. Most of all the turret will not have thr cobblestone cast texture that mars all the Afv-club M60 series thus far.

This is a reissue of the old (but quite good) Adler conversion, Sol Model didn't have to invest much since they bought Adler's masters when they folded. Not the same thing as designing a complex conversion from scratch.

These kinds of kit subjects are just great! What could beat a TANK with a DOZER blade! I just love engineer and recovery vehicles. And I'm still waiting for a really good Bergepanther in 1/35th as well!
