Previously announced for release last December, we just received word from IBG Models that their early production variant of the Japanese Type 89 tank is finally available.
The Type 89 was a medium tank used by the Imperial Japanese Army from 1932 to 1942. It was deployed various combat theaters such as Second Sino-Japanese War, at Khalkhin Gol against the Soviet Union, and in the Second World War. It had a crew of four and was armed with 1 x Type 90 57 mm gun, and 2 x Type 91 6.5 machine guns. Two main variants were produced: Model Ko / Kou (A) and Model Otsu (B) – the primary difference between the two being the engine as the former was gasoline and the latter being diesel. More than 400 units are believed to have been produced in total.
IBG Models’ Type 89 Japanese Medium Tank KOU-Gasoline Early (#72037) is rendered in 1/72 scale. It features link-and-length tracks, a photo-etched fret, and comes with 2 figures.
Our thanks to IBG Models for this update.
