Custom-Scale adds another to its line of rocket of kits, this time an anti-aircraft weapon developed and tested by the German company Rheinmetal-Borsig during the Second World War.
There were two configurations of the Fire Lily ("Feuerlilie"): F-25 and F-55, with the numeric designator indicating its fuselage diameter in centimeters. Designed for supersonic speeds, the F-55 was tailless and had small wings with fins located towards the rear. The first tests conducted in 1944 were successful, with the F-55 reaching speeds of Mach 1.25. Subsequent trials however were not satisfactory due to unstable flight behavior. Further work was conducted but was eventually discontinued as the Second World War drew to a close in 1945.
Custom-Scale’s Deutsche Flugabwehrrakete Feuerlilie F-55 A-1 mit Lafette und Rampe (35071) is a full resin kit rendered in 1/35 scale. The kit contains parts to build an F-55 together with its launch ramp and carriage.
Background information on the Fire Lily F-55 was sourced from online sites of Luft46 and Wehrmacht-History.
