Elefant and Zimmerit Set

Announced during its hobby fair last November 2016 at Shizuoka, Tamiya has now announced its general availability this March. A Zimmerit sheet for this kit will also be made available as a separate item.

German Heavy Tank Destroyer Elefant (32589)

Appearing during the latter stages of the Second World War, the Elefant mounted the famous 8.8cm gun and had frontal armor up to 200mm thick. Kit highlights:

fighting compartment parts breakdown is based upon the weld lines seen on real Elefants
commander torso figure
weights for installation in the hull give a realistically heavy feel

As built the model at a length of 172mm.

Zimmerit Coating Sheet for 1/48 Scale Elefant (12671)

This coating sheet is designed for the Tamiya 1/48 scale Elefant model (32589). The pattern is cut from the sheet, applied to the model, and may be painted over.

What material is the Zimmerit Coating Sheet made of? Resin?

Isn't this fairly old "/news"? It received generally poor reviews because it's not really realistic looking zimmerit. Also tended not to fit well.

It's news because this is the 1/48 which is even less well defined and harder to apply because it's smaller. Personally I love it in 1/35 because it captures the Zimmerit look in scale. It's not super well defined because it is a miniature so gives the subtle texture you see in photos.

That is actually to keep the built kit on your shelf in case of an earthquake. Got to think of the Japanese home market. With your Tamiya apron making Tamiya Ramen in a Tamiya pot.
