New from Ace Model is its 1/48 scale kit of this WWII-era Soviet light armored vehicle.
In 1936, the Soviet Union developed the BA-20 (Broneavtomobil 20), a scout vehicle based on the chassis of civilian GAZ-M1 car. Its tires were designed to be resistant to bullets and shrapnel by the simple expedient of filling them with spongy rubber. The BA-20 was armed with a 7.62mm DT machine gun and crewed by three. It was the first Soviet armored car that featured an escape hatch at the bottom of the vehicle. The BA-20 saw action in the early stages of the Second World War such as the Soviet invasion of Poland later in 1939, and the Winter War against Finland in 1940.
Ace Model’s BA-20 Early Production (48108) kit is rendered in plastic and includes rubber tires. It may be finished as a vehicle either in Soviet Red Army or German Wehrmacht use.
Background information on the vehicle sourced from Russati.su and Wikipedia.
