Custom-Scale, in collaboration with MR Modellbau, has released a conversion kit to build a PzKpfw II Ausf L with a 5cm gun.
Had production plans pushed through, the PzKpfw II Ausf L (Luchs) that we know of would have had a version that packed a bigger gun. The assembly contract, expanded in July 1942, called for the production of 800 vehicles, with the first 100 units built with the 2cm Kw.K.38 gun and thus designated as Luchs 2cm. After this the succeeding vehicles, were to be called Luchs 5cm, as it were to mount the 5cm Kw.K. L/60 gun. Such plan however did not push through as a decision was made by February 1943 to stop the production after the completion of the first 100 vehicles.
Custom-Scale offers its rendition as to how Luchs 5cm may have looked, had it been produced, using the turret that was mounted the Sd.Kfz.234/2 (Puma).
Panzer II Ausf L mit Puma Turm (35078) is offered as a 1/35 conversion kit for use with either Tasca or Mirage Hobby PzKpfw II Ausf L kit. The conversion parts are in resin and the barrel is of aluminum.
Background information on the vehicle sourced from Panzer Tracts 2-2.
