A new German medical vehicle has joined the ranks of Dragon's ’39-’45 series.

The new kit represents a 4x2 ambulance based on the famous German 3-ton truck range, which was used for myriad purposes by German soldiers during WWII.
By 1944 some 70,000 4x2 trucks had been produced, along with at least 25,000 additional 4x4 trucks.

The ambulance version featured a box body installed behind the standard cab to carry lying or seated casualties for medical evacuation.

This new Ambulance Truck shares the highly accurate cab and chassis of Dragon’s existing 1/35 kit of the German 4x2 cargo truck.

Likewise, the rear ambulance body is borrowed from the Maultier Ambulance kit. It includes a delicate access ladder on the rear, while the rear door opens to reveal an outfitted ambulance interior.

New parts added to the mix are stowage boxes located under the box body.

For the moment, only this simple CAD drawing is available.

All the parts are in the old Maultier Ambulance, missing just one wheel, AFAIR, I did it with the old one.

But, the ambulance Blitz, I believe were of the 4x4 variant, mainly. It could have been a good opportunity to do a 4x4 Blitz

Nice release ! This style of body was also used for other purposes as well, like maintenance and supply functions so you could use this truck in a repair facility dio, etc. J

Jerry, I believe that the other versions did not have the extended roof. Dan

I love a well done 1/48 WW2 German SoftSkin 😆 -- does the Maultier Ambulance come with an out-fitted Ambulance body ?

The Germans had both 2x4 and 4x4 Blitz ambulance so either would be correct. However I agree this would have been the perfect opportunity for someone to FINALLY make a 4x4 Blitz available in plastic. Finally the Multier ambulance does come with a crowded, fully detailed rear house body.

While this is all very nice I am left wondering what ever happened to Dragon's release of the radio truck that they offered a while back that was based on the Maultier version f this kit? Can't find it in their DragonUSA site catalogue. And yes, it would have been a great opportunity to offer the 4x4 version, so I'm guessing that Dragon will offer it separately a year down the road. As usual.

Got to inspect this kit last weekend at Scale Reproductions in Louisville. Very nicely done kit and a very full load of stretchers, etc. in the rear! Why no one makes the 4x4 Blitz in plastic is beyond me! ________________________________ Opel Blitz reference here on Armorama can be viewed at : LINK
