Dragon will be releasing soon a magnificent representation of Wittmann’s Tiger I (turret number ‘S04’) with 88 kill marks on barrel.
Hauptsturmführer Michael Wittmann was one of Germany’s highest-scoring tank aces of WWII, with the credited destruction of 138 tanks and 132 anti-tank guns. He took command of a Tiger I for combat during Operation Citadel at Kursk in July 1943.

Dragon’s kit portrays an Early-Production variant.

Keep in mind it's 1/72, I think this specific model is their first (although there is a 1/35 one which has the same boxart). There is a Dragon Armor 1/72 also, but it comes already assembled and painted.

My mistake Still: It doesn't scream "/news" so much anyway cause we all know it's not the first early Tiger in 1/72nd scale ever offered... The stale feeling of boredem still lingers around the corner

This Tiger was not at Kursk. It was issued to Wittman's unit when they refitted in Italy in August 1943. This Tiger was probably not Wittman's. It appears to be the company commander's tank, painted up with kill marks for the photo session. Why they would not use Wittman's tank I don't know. Perhaps it had damage. This is a Command Tiger as stated, but Wittman was using a standard Tiger at this time, as far as I know. David

Dragon already have the "Tiger I and Tiger Aces" set, which is their 1/72 "Late" Tiger I believe, coupled with five crew members in relaxed poses, but with the common small scale problem of closed hatches, meaning the crew have to hang around like they've been locked out (try finding a wartime photo like that). This on the other hand appears to be an "Early" Tiger with new decals, and if the 1/35 predecessor is anything to go by, the crew may well be new and look like this: - which would be new in 1/72 I think. I guess we don't know if the hatches will be openable on the kit; the 2009 Initial prod kit appears to have had opening hatches at the front as well as on the turret, and also had an etched sheet. Finding decent crew in 1/72 is not that easy, so anything new in that area is welcome, although if the above "love in" is what will be included, they are not particularly adaptable, I guess.

The photo-op figurine set is kind of interesting... Should have come with a photographer figurine.
