Takom will release two new M3A1 Lee next July.
While the M3A1 Lee is a well known tank, Takom adds also a less famous version, the Canal Defence Light (CDL) variant.

CDLwas based around the use of a powerful Carbon-Arc lamp to illuminate enemy positions in night attacks as well as disorient the enemy troops.

The United Kingdom mounted them on different tanks, but choice of the US Army for carrying this device was the M3A1 Lee.

Carlos/ Muchas gracias/Thanks for the info... very interesting versions -especially the cast hull M3- ... and Robin, after all these years saving it, your Verlinden CDL turret may find its way to "enlighten" a welded/bolt hull M3, a Churchill and/or a Matilda

Sooner or later Miniart would release full interior M3. Any possible?

Not really. The Verlinden has the British set-up which is a little different from the US set-up. Takom is the US set up. Be nice if it came with alternate parts for the later VVSS suspension, M3 75mm gun barrel and sealed up side hatches. And maybe if we're all good little boys and girls someone will do the later M3A1 hull with the sealed hatches and ventilators.

As I knew nothing about this vehicle, I looked it up and was inspired by the fact that this turret was also used on Churchill and Matilda tanks.

Great to have a cast-hull version on the M3 so that I can finally get rid of the ancient Tamiya kit hiding around here somewhere. Looking forward to seeing what's next!

Curious as to how many searchlight conversions were made and where they were actually used

LINK “I was detailed to lay on a special demonstration with 6 CDL tanks for him (Churchill). A stand was erected on a bleak hillside in the training area at Penrith and in due course, the great man arrived accompanied by others. I controlled the various maneuvers of the tanks by wireless from the stands, ending the demo with the CDLs advancing towards the spectators with their lights on halting just 50 yards in front of them. The lights were switched off and I awaited further instructions. After a brief interval, the Brigadier (Lipscomb of the 35th Tank Brigade) rushed up to me and ordered me to switch on the lights as Mr. Churchill was just leaving. I immediately ordered the 6 CDL tanks to switch on: 6 beams each of 13 million candlepower came on to illuminate the great man quietly relieving himself against a bush! I immediately had the lights extinguished!”
