The name of Steve Zaloga should require little introduction in armor modeling, however, not only is he a highly-prolific modeler, he has also published a great number of excellent reference books. Now, comes news of another book for those modeling the M4 Sherman.
Sticking my neck out slightly, in my opinion, the Osprey Modelling Series has been one of the best series' of this type ever published...
All the commissioned authors have been allowed to play very clearly to their strengths and experience - Tom Cockle with Axis subjects, Nick Cortese with Soviet AFVs and Zaloga with U.S. material.
Now, comes news of a release which could be categorized as 'Part 2' of modeling the M4:
Modelling the US Army M4 (76mm) Sherman Medium Tank (Osprey Modelling 40) will be published in October 2007. The book follows the usual format, 80 pages, and the emphasis on a series of build-projects. In this case, four projects, each dealing with 76mm armed M4 Sherman variants.
The (listed) chapter headings are:
Introduction
M4A1 (76mm) Sherman, Operation Cobra
'Sandbagged in Alsace': M4A3E8 (76mm) Sherman
The 'Rhine Rat Race': M4A3E2 assault tank
Big gun, small turret: M4A3 (76mm) and M4A3 (17 pdr) Firefly
Research and reference
Index
The book carries the ISBN: 9781846031205 and will cost $18.95/£12.99.
