Italeri has re-released their Jagdpanther, now with winter crew and the new gluable tracks
In first months of 1944, started the production of the heavy tank destroyer Sd.Kfz.173 "Jagdpanther". It was built on the excellent chassis of the Panther medium tank on which was installed, in a fixed casemate, the lethal anti-tank long-barreled gun 8.8 cm Pak 43/3 able to penetrate the armour of every type of Allied and Soviet tank and armoured vehicle.
The Jagdpanther offered a good level of protection thanks to the angled frontal armour to better resist to the direct enemy hits. Despite the few number of units produced, it was used in Normandy, in the Ardennes and in the Eastern Front until the end of the war.
The crew was formed by five men and, inside the combat room of the casemate, there was enough space to load 57 rounds for the 8.8 cm cannon. Due to its operational features it was extremely effective and was much feared by the enemy tank crews.

This Italeri kit comes with decals for three versions.

A rebox of a 1994 kit, the rubber band tracks were a give away.

But now they're glueable easily with CA! Which means they can easily be glued down to the road wheels and you have a whole winter crew and wow! so much value in one box! (Just a touch of sarcasm. I actually like this kit and have shopping for the right price. It's about my speed anymore despite a whole menagerie of JPanther kits out now and will please the home market for Italeri where that menagerie isn't the home team and not sold in drugstores.)

Is the crew a rebox as well or is it new`?

The crew are from Miniart. Alan

Not a bad "craftsman" kit. I built it years ago, replaced the track with Hobbyboss indy link plastic ones and did some scratch-detailing as the kit is a tad soft in places. (The spare track hanger was particularly embarrassing IIRC. Added a crew from I think a Dragon set. Not a patch on recent releases, but nowhere near the price either.

Hate to seem arrogant or unduly spoiled but I will usually bypass these older "legacy" kits and their re-box versions in favour of the newer and better. I'm kind of tired of updating EVERYTHING and find the extra work and marked lack of enjoyment not offset by any savings in the price. We're all here only for so long and I'd rather build fewer quality kits than a whole bunch of older, less detailed ones. Besides, if we don't how will new manufacturers ever be able to offer anything to us, a group of fickle spendthrifts one and all?

Hi Frank! That's fair enough - we each have our own priorities in this hobby. And there are definitely kits I will body-swerve for the same reasons. In my defence back when I built it it WAS the only game in town! And I forgot to mention I tend only to pay what I think these old kits are worth, which for this JP is about £10 from a second-hand kit seller. Again, we all have our own red lines and sticking-points, which is how life should be...
